1. TWC sucks
2. There's nothing "official" yet. There will be by 2am EDT. This will be a hurricane, no question.

But are they reporting the latest recon data to us or just the 11 PM advisory? My guess is the latter.

I wager this a hurricane. If there's no upgrade at 2, almost certainly at 5.

Yes, because the NHC has not officially upgraded it yet. It will be upgraded to a 75 or 80mph hurricane come 2am, though, so you might even see it on the 1:50 Tropical Update . . .

Don't listen to the weather channel. Look at the data, surface data of 70 knots+.

I could be wrong, but I don't think it's got until 5 over water. Again, JMO.

If not at 1 then not until the TCR; as by 4 he will have likely made landfall.

Agreed at this point. The available data has minimum 65 kt, quite likely 70 kt.

Good points guys; even though I suggested maybe a landfall after the 5 EDT advisory, it could be that he is onshore. Regardless, even if there's no upgrade tonight/this morning, this almost assuredly is a hurricane that the TCR will show.

Thats why people come to sites like this =) Publicly released information can be delayed fairly significantly, but knowing the storms and the determinations that are used to upgrade storms, we can make the educated assumption that they will upgrade before it's official.

Full special advisory . . . nice call whoever said it would be special. Of course, it's more than 15 minutes late :D

Then TWC lied . . . it's an 80mph hurricane.

And nothing said on TWC is official unless they state it is from the official source. Check http://www.nhc.noaa.gov for the most up-to-date info.
