A little hard to discern what is the actual center, but, the low cloud lines seem to indicate that a broad center is at 29.8 and 71.5...

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but having lived in Wilmington my entire life (all 20 years of it) and having seen storms like Fran, Bonnie, Floyd and the likes come straight for us when they were labeled as OBX storms, I'd say start to think about getting ready for this tonight or tomorrow. Nothing serious, just bring in anything loose and make sure you're prepared for a day or two of no power, because I have a bad feeling that this thing is going to come in between the NC/SC border and Jax (NC) with 80ish MPH winds. Remember Ophelia?

EDIT: As far as watches and warnings, if needed, look for a TS watch tomorrow late night from Charleston to OBX

I don't think Fran, Bonnie or Floyd were ever forecasted as OBX storms. The evacuated Myrtle Beach and points south for each of them.

You'll still get very strong winds being so close to where it may go NC. LOL
you'll get plenty of action from it I'm sure.

If it comes in at SC-NC line the most they would get is high surf.

Looking at QuikSCAT, the center appears to be near 28.0°N 70.5°W.

Maybe, but the last time they did that, they started advisories on TD #6 (Felix) at 5pm.

That's true. It looks to be near 71°W now, moving W to WNW.

I will be very surprised if they don't initiate advisories on something at 5... It also formed last Friday!

One interesting note: the last September named storm that failed to reach hurricane intensity was Tropical Storm Henri in 2003 - 17 storms ago.

Actually, I believe they did it Monday or Tuesday with this same system.

But I expect advisories on something at 5pm.
