Below trop points again. Nicaraguan landfall almost certain.

Masters says strong ridge accelerated Felix to 21mph forward speed. Should limit rainfall over landfall area.

The eye is clearing out again...and on MIMIC that was posted earlier, you can see the dark reds returning to the eyewall at the end

Latest AVN shows the eye again so it looks like its coming back after that gulp of dry air.

Expansion does not necessarily mean intensification, if that was your implication. More than likely Felix is staying at steady state or a slight weakening. However, at the intensity he is at he is still IMO a monster. I sure would not want to go through it.

couple of points

1. The eye has expaned

2. Felix has slowed slightly based upon the latest recon fixes... may be closer to 18 mph now

Hi Derek,

Question, are eyewall replacements responsible for slowing in forward speed, or is it always a combination of factors?

Derek, do you think that Félix has already reached its maximum intensity? Meaning, 165+ mph winds.

looks like its about to restrengthen. Near
-80 degree cloud tops are starting to show in NW eyewall.

it likely has peaked

the EWRC is not the cause of the slowdown, its moving to the western extent of the ridge

GFDL slows this to under 10KT

Do you think it will start gaining a little latitude because right now it's going to Nicaragua. Could it still miss Honduras to the north and go to Belize?

I think it strikes BOTH Honduras and Belize
