As long as it stays near south America the TCHP is not super high. I don't expect this to become more then a cat3 as long as it stays out of the line of fire in the middle and upper caribbean. But who knows cyclones are something to be amazed at.

My opinion is that 98L/future Gabrielle is the one that might have the USA's name on it. Although it was looking awfully sheared this afternoon, and the cloud tops are warming on it now. Maybe the potential homebrew not yet designated 99L will be Gabrielle.
But w/ Euro showing 500 mb ridge on Friday holding strong into the East Pac, this thing would have an awfully tough time gaining latitude.
Now, if Euro and GFS 8 to 10 day 500 mb means are correct, the next Caribbean storm might cross the Yucatan and head for South Texas, but that is rather far in the future.
It needs to gain latitude to feel any trough weakness, in my unoffical opinion, and 13ºN seems like a ceiling it can't break through.

looking at AVN sat loop, I am noticing a bit more of a WNW wobble going on right now.
it is not much at all, but it looks like it may be wanting to take another swing at crossing 13N.
will watch for further trends.

Nimbus wrote:Should pass north of Aruba by 50 or 60 miles. Even if Hurricane force winds extend out double the current radius of 15 miles it should not be too bad on the weak side of the storm.
Is the "weak side" that much weaker if it is essentially almost all over water?

Hurricane Watch for the Netherland Antilles(no clue why it's not a warning)

Track looks a little more north.
