i know Cat5, Eureka's records always seem to stand out from the others. Ive wondered why Eureka had such cool record high temperatures, but doing some research, i've found out that the city is located in far North western California, right along the coast...and surrounded by water of the Pacific Ocean, a huge bay and several rivers...which is why the temp never rises too high .. in fact, the highest temp ever recorded in Eureka is only 87F in 1993 (Kodiak Alaska's highest temp has reached 86F, Juneau AK has reached 90F, Fairbanks AK has reached 96F!)
Eureka is ideally, if remotely, situated within California's Redwood Empire region due to its proximity to exceptional natural resources. These include the spectacular coast of the Pacific Ocean, Humboldt Bay, and several rivers in addition to Redwood National and State Parks and Humboldt Redwoods State Park.
Eureka is the largest protected deep-water port between San Francisco Bay and Puget Sound. The location of Eureka on Highway 101 is 283 miles (455 km) north of San Francisco and 315 miles (507 km) north and west of Sacramento
