If only there was reconnaissance in the W Pac. This would have been a very interesting storm to observe in situ.

The JTWC uses the Atkinson-Holiday pressure-wind relationship, so if JTWC ups to 140 kt you will see 898 mbar. The JMA will not lower it below 900 however.

Latest JTWC advisory ups it to 130 kt super typhoon, with a 145 kt forecast point for 36 hours.

That's much more in line with the GFDN. CHIPS has it going to a whopping 160knots if you can believe it, which is pretty much the potential intensity. Wouldn't want to be in Taiwan staring down such a monster.

Probably stronger if they flew a Hurricane Hunter into it...pinhole eyes can be stronger than satellite suggests as it is in a tiny area of peak intensity...
