Statement as of 12:45 PM MST on August 6, 2007
... Monsoon precipitation above normal most places so far...
Although it was officially the fourth latest start to the monsoon
season for the state (july 19th)... thunderstorm activity has been
prominent over northern Arizona since early July. Over the past
three weeks... many locations have received above normal
precipitation which has made this monsoon season a good one for
moisture... and has provided some relief for the short-term drought.
The following table shows values of total recorded precipitation for
the Jul 1 - Aug 5 period along with normal precipitation and the
percent of normal. As can be seen... rainfall for most locations is
above normal for the monsoon season so far.
Location total observed normal % of normal

While the short-term drought has eased over northern Arizona... which
helps agricultural and farming interests... long-term drought
conditions are still gripping northern Arizona. This long-term
drought represents the significant deficit in precipitation over
many years which has a significant effect on area reservoirs and
aquifers. The drought monitor product... issued weekly... indicates
that northern Arizona remains in either severe or extreme long-term
drought conditions.
