Developing Story... SC... Van pulled over with explosives

#1 Postby wx247 » Sat Aug 04, 2007 9:52 pm

Apparently this is breaking on CNN... getting ready to get another update soon. Said that the car had Florida plates and contained 2 Middle Eastern men. Not to jump to conclusions... but sounds like a fairly serious situation.

Goose Creek - Berkeley County police pulled over a vehicle in a routine traffic stop near Meyers Road and Highway 1-76 around 6 p.m. The vehicle with Florida tags was driven by two men of Middle Eastern descent. Inside police found explosive devices. Highway 1-76 near Goose Creek has since been shut down. In addition to the FBI, authorities from Goose Creek, Berkeley County, and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are on scene. The Charleston County bomb squad has also been called. Tune in tonight at 11 for details live from the scene.

The sound of a firecracker. Doesn't sound like much of an explosion. Maybe it was left over fireworks from the 4th of July.

I don't think it's a hyped-up non-story. It's a story that is a sign of the times. I'm glad they got them. Who the heck knows what they were planning on doing with them.

The story doesn't even note what exactly the "explosive devices" were. They could be illegal fireworks for all we know. I'm going with the hyped-up non-story theory until proven otherwise. That's how these things nearly always turn out.

The FBI has said there are no terrorism involved in this. In fact, it didnt even make their Top Ten stories of the week....

and now CNN reports that the feds are even disputing a bomb was found:

Who said that? I certainly didn't. My question was in reference to the clearly trumped up "explosive device" charges. Do you think those charges would have popped up if these guys weren't clearly Muslims?

There was a somewhat similar story where a racist restaurant patron called the cops on a group of medical students of middle-eastern descent in Georgia. They were apprehended later on I-75 somewhere along Alligator Alley. The cops had the road closed for hours while they searched and of course found nothing on these guys. The rumors had been flying that they were going to commit a massive terrorist attack in Miami. It's easy to see the racist hatred that folks of middle-eastern descent face these days. Quite sad, really.

Here, I found a link to the story. It was 9/13/02.

This kind of racism is nothing new in America. When communism became a threat to the US, everyone that was a communist or had similar ideas was persecuted. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, all the Japanese people in the US were rounded up in basically "concentration camps." Now that Osama Bin Ladin in the name of Allah did his terrorist attack to the US, everyone that looks Muslim is looked with suspicion and malacy. Especially in the airports.

At the end people are just ignorant and believe that if a member of your religion or race did something bad then you are also accountable for it. It's just lack of education.
