TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 564
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
830 PM CDT SUN JUN 22 2003

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

SMALL PORTION OF NORTHEAST KANSAS
EASTERN NEBRASKA

EFFECTIVE THIS SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY MORNING FROM 830 PM UNTIL
100 AM CDT.

TORNADOES...HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS
TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS ALONG AND 60 STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST
OF A LINE FROM 50 MILES NORTH NORTHWEST OF NORFOLK NEBRASKA TO 20
MILES SOUTH SOUTHWEST OF CONCORDIA KANSAS.

REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA.
PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING
WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE
WARNINGS.

OTHER WATCH INFORMATION...THIS TORNADO WATCH REPLACES TORNADO
WATCH NUMBER 562. WATCH NUMBER 562 WILL NOT BE IN EFFECT AFTER 830
PM CDT. CONTINUE...WW 560...WW 561...WW 563...


DISCUSSION...TORNADIC SUPERCELLS WITH AN ADDITIONAL THREAT OF VERY
LARGE HAIL WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE VERY SLOWLY EWD DURING THE NEXT FEW
HOURS INTO ERN NEB AND PORTIONS OF FAR NERN KS. AS BOUNDARY LAYER
COOLS AND STRONG ISENTROPIC LIFT INCREASES ON NOSE OF 50+ KT SLY
LLJ... ACTIVITY MAY EVOLVE INTO A SEVERE MCS TOWARDS 03Z-4Z.

AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND
GUSTS TO 60 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 500.

Take a look at this total rainfall radar estimate! The 2 specks of white means 15+ inches of rain :o ! Ouch.

It is really raining......2" in 20 minutes, and still raining.

Rain rate on my weather station says 21 inches per hour.

That is just the estimate, if it was to continue to rain at that rate for 1 hour. This would not happen, but it is fun to look at.
