My Chase Report: Severe T-Storm Central Pinellas Co. FL

#1 Postby Tampa Bay Hurricane » Sat Jul 28, 2007 5:56 pm

changed title to central pinellas because the damage
was north of saint pete from what I saw
but I did not travel into downtown....

I was stormchasing a very strong storm over
central Pinellas county today! Quite an experience!!!

***This was one of the wildest storm chasing days
in the history of chasing storms...I was scared today!!!***

In this part of saint pete, 2 trees were completely uprooted.
Branches everywhere, I mean the street is
just covered in heavy branches.
This looks like a hurricane blew
through on some streets of NE Saint Pete.
This is one of the fierciest
storms I have ever seen, in fact the
microbursting winds were comparable
to those produced by hurricane jeanne in
2004.

Anyway, so I saw multiple uprooted trees
and trees toppled, tons of branches down, and
very heavy flooding rains, about 3.5-4 inches this afternoon.

The wind was horrendous, very strong,
I would estimate 70 mph wind gusts with the
multiple large trees toppled and branches everywhere.

So this is the result of my storm chasing tour,
the worst weather missed my house by a few miles
though we got heavy rain...but my stormchasing tours
showed damage on par with that of a strong
tropical storm.

I wanted to get pics but it was so violent I couldn't
see anythign on the camera pic!!!
I need to get this on video.
I WISH I had my CAMERA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was in northeastern saint petersburg...
around the shore acres area...near
4th street and 62nd avenue north
Shore acres was where the tree
branches were everywhere...and
in that area some trees down.

Also, along forth street between
38th and 62nd avenue...and also
in the same area along first street
and extending north past
70th avenue...

Looks to have been a localized downburst.
Other areas seem pretty unscathed...
An area of NE saint pete and extending into
eastern pinellas just east of I-275 is
where the heavy activity occured...though
wind damage is isolated to a localized region
along the parameters of 1st street and 4th street
and 38-62nd avenues...perhaps beyond 62nd
but certainly in that range...
Following the path, the damage extended towards
tampa bay...it seems the downbursting winds
followed a course towards tampa bay
itself from around 4th strret and 62nd ave.
and extending into Shore Acres.

That's what I'm wondering...
I'm going to try to look up information
on storm reports and see if I can find anything...
