It seems the SPC is thinking that this shortwave is going to be a little more progressive than previously thought, as yesterday the SLGT only extended down into W MD at the furthest south, though it is now through Richmond. Might provide an interesting damper on DC's fireworks . . .
Already seeing the beginning of a couple of good lines of storms in OH and across S IL/IN as well as through central MO/KS. One of these is going to have to dominate, and the GFS has been pointing to a decent derecho event for a few days now, albeit further north and east of where SPC put the high wind risk (SE IN east to DC). Could be quite the interesting day (and evening) should that OH line get going and survive its crossing of the mountains . . .

Not so much luck down here in northern VA and the rest of the DC metro area. Already two different tornadic cells producing about six different TORs . . . two of which had confirmed funnel sightings and one had a tornado report. Current TOR is up for Fairfax County and headed to clip the southern edge of DC. Mall was evacuated appx. 30 minutes ago . . . but that was before the Fairfax storm started moving slightly right . . .

WOW! I had heard that they cleared the Mall due to severe weather, but I didn't know it was tornadic.
We had some lightning and thunder mixing in with the fireworks that the area still set off. We're having some rain right now.
Tomorrow there is another possibility for severe weather. I was a little surprised that a tornado watch went up TODAY. I wonder if we will have another one tomorrow.

Same here, I'm puzzed as to why they issued a watch this far north and east. It really wasn't that favorable. No storms at all seemed to be able to hold up for more then an hour.

Re: TORNADO WATCH FOR OHIO, WVA, PENNSYLVANIA, MARYLAND
Can someone explain to me why we didn't have a severe thunderstorm watch for the Philadelphia area this afternoon? I was watching this huge line of severe storms moving from west of Harrisburg towards Philadelphia this afternoon. They DID fade, but one cell inparticular held up pretty nicely.
We had a tornado watch yesterday, but no sun. It was more humid today, but no severe thunderstorm watch.

I was wondering that but they were right. None of those storms got here at severe status.

Re: TORNADO WATCH FOR OHIO, WVA, PENNSYLVANIA, MARYLAND
Maybe they were making up for the day before.
At least those storms I was watching around Harrisburg were in the Severe Thunderstorm Watch box. That one particular cell was a deep red and hung on until it got just outside of Philadelphia.
