FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities said professional wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and child were found slain Monday at their Fayette County home.
Lieutenant Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department said the three were found about 2:30 p.m., but he would release no other details.
Pope said the deaths are being investigated as homicide, but the cause of death awaits autopsy results tomorrow.
He would not say how the bodies were discovered, or who found them.

That's what I would think too. How many wrestlers are now dead within the last 15 years? A lot by what's i've heard. Half of them young too. RIP.
I don't watch, follow, or care about wrestling BTW. He was Canadian though

The local news just said it's being investigated as a murder-suicide.

Did it ever. They brought it to an end during tonight's RAW - which was entirely tape of previous Benoit matches, plus several testimonials.

Benoit's death part of a double murder-suicide
Written: June 25, 2007According to lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, in Fayetteville, Ga., the deaths of WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and son Daniel were the result of a double murder-suicide, WWE.com has learned.
Benoit failed to appear both at Saturday’s live event in Beaumont, Tx., and WWE’s Vengeance: Night of Champions in Houston Sunday night, after informing WWE of a family emergency. Several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning prompted concerned friends to alert Richard Hering, VP of Government Relations for WWE, Inc. Hering, in turn, spoke with Fayette County sheriffs Monday, and requested that they respond to the Benoit residence to check on him and his family.
Authorities representing the Sheriff’s Department initially had a difficult time entering Benoit’s new Fayetteville home Monday afternoon, which had been guarded by two large German Shepherds roaming freely around the property. Once authorities entered the residence, they quickly located the bodies of Benoit, Nancy and Daniel. WWE was notified of the discovery at approximately 4 p.m.
At 10 p.m. Monday night, Lt. Pope held a press conference in conjunction with Scott Ballard, the district attorney for Fayette County. The press conference officially ruled authorities’ findings as a double murder-suicide from within the home.
WAGA, a FOX-owned and operated television station in Atlanta, reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son over the weekend, then himself on Monday.
The three bodies have been received by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab, in Decatur, Ga., where autopsies will be performed Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not become available for at least two weeks.
WWE.com has further information relating to both the investigation and the cause of death, but the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department has requested that WWE.com not release any additional details at this time.

Re: WWE star Chris Benoit and his family found dead in home
Pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son this weekend before hanging himself Monday in the weight room of his Georgia home, a law enforcement official close to the investigation told The Associated Press.

I have read on CNN that they were doing toxicology tests. Maybe roids were involved (that would be the surprise of the century... a pro wrestler using roids)

if roids did play a role in this, I would like to see the following happen
Ban Vince MacMahon from ever having anything to do with anything resembling atheletic competetions again for life. Roids have been taken in pro wrestling for many years; thus, he may be a repeat offender under the WADA code
State athletic commissions need to test for masking agents and blood abnormalities (see the CONI tests from the Mt Zoncolon stage of this year's Giro D'Italia to see that this can be done). Not testing for masking agents defeats the purpose of the tests
Other sports need a real steriod policy as the side effects appear to be quite dangerous even to non athletes. This seems like this is the second hand smoke of doping; thus, roids need to have special attention). Sports need to use the WADA code for roids, meaning a 2 year ban for the first offense and lifetime for the second. Keep their drug policies for other drugs as they tend to affect mainly the athletes

I heard them talking about "many" prescription bottles found in their home. They said they were for him - not the wife or son. I would just about bet you dollars to doughnuts that he was on roids.
That being said - fine if ya wanna kill yourself go ahead. But how in the name of God can you kill your own child?????
I just can't wrap my brain around that.

Re: WWE star Chris Benoit and his family found dead in home
Benoit goes from being one of the most beloved, respected wrestlers to one of the most infamous and despised, just in a matter of hours. Hopefully this will be a wake up call to all the athletes who do this crap (roids), but I extremely doubt it. I can't even imagine how someone could kill their wife and kid. May he rest in the bottom of hell.

Re: WWE star Chris Benoit and his family found dead in home
the state Athletic commissions need to get their heads out of their rears and stop this, or else, Congress should like they threatened to do with Baseball before Selig got his 50/100/life policy passed (the WADA code would have been implemented by Congress had MLB not agreed to Selig's plan)
Just do NOT let the USADA handle the doping cases. They still have not determined if Floyd Landis is guilty of doping during last year's Tour de France

Roid Rage is now the lead story at cnn.com and the WWE is an excuse as lame as some used by the pro cyclists
