Really Stupid House Projects

Have you ever bought a house you loved, but the previous owner really added something you found horrible? It was reversable, so you bought the house anyway. They may have put up checkered wallpaper, painted a room bright red, or put in a countertop that was painted.

Yep, the same one we've been in for 15 years. When we bought it, everything was brown - carpet, walls, floors, everything. The only room in the house that wasn't carpeted was the entry. First thing we did was rip out the kitchen carpet (KITCHEN CARPET!!) and put in tile. It looks nothing at all like it did when we bought it, inside and outside.

Hmm . . . this house had a tiny bathroom (maybe 6x8?) and carpet in all rooms. Bathroom carpet with a 6 year old boy and 1 year old girl. Yuk!

The last house I bought had been owned by a real do-it-yourselfer. When we ripped the horrible wallpaper out of the dining room we discovered that there had been another door in there - he filled the hole with particleboard and wallpapered over it. I ended up having to wallpaper right back over it (we were planning on tearing the house down and building in a few years, so didn't want to get into remodeling that house).
