Red tag with a nail through it

#1 Postby alicia-w » Thu May 03, 2007 2:41 pm

when all the snow melted, we saw a red tag with a nail through it in the ground of what can be called our front yard. Any idea what it might be? The previous owner had no idea (she didnt know where the main water turn-off was either).

is it a survey marker of some kind?

Is it in line with a gas meter near the house (even if the tag is far from the house)? Gas companies will red tag lines and shutoff valves that don't meet pressure specifications and other piping regulations after an inspection rather than dig it all up.

we have propane and that is behind the house. I thought gas tags were usually yellow.

I guess it depends upon the company or the city's standards for labeling such things. What I saw were red for faulty and unusable lines and white for properly maintained and connected lines. Maybe it was yellow where you used to live, but in NM they're red? *shrugs*

How far are you from Area 51? Sorry, honestly, I don't know what else it might be.
