Campus Security Advisory: Unconfirmed report of threat
Galveston Police reported receiving an anonymous call around 10:30 a.m. suggesting a person with a gun was seen running in the street in the vicinity of campus. The call was made via a cell phone; details were not offered and the threat has not been confirmed.

University Police are investigating. Members of the campus community are advised to pay attention to their surroundings, exercise caution and report any unusual person or activity to the University Police.

Advisory Update: No evidence of a person with a gun
University Police have spent the past several hours investigating a report made by an anonymous caller about a person with a gun in the vicinity of the UTMB campus. No such person has been seen or located. Galveston Police reported receiving a call around 10:30 a.m. saying a person with a gun was seen running in the street near campus. The call was made via a cell phone; details were not offered. University Police will maintain extra patrols as a precaution and members of the campus community are advised to always pay attention to their surroundings, exercise caution and report any unusual person or activity to (409) 772-1111. This will be the last update on this incident unless additional information becomes available.

The most likely instigator of the false alarm was a miscommunication. These false incidents are more frequent than you think.
