Huh. This is a new twist.

I suppose he can give the medal away if he wishes.

Sorry Ohiostorm I never your post and I have been reading this thread pretty closely. I'm not saying it wasn't here just saying I never saw it. Not sure what it said BUT for sure I would not have deleted it without talking to you first. My advise is if you remember what you said, please post it again

I have been reading it as well and didn't see it. But unless it particularly stood out, I may not remember it. I haven't seen anything in here that needed to be removed though.

What did it say and when did you post it?

We have been making a real point to communicate about everything, so it is very odd that two posts just mysteriously disappear.

I'm going to wait for Luke to repost if he cares to then I or some other staff member is going to split out the posts that do not pertain to the actual topic. If we need to have further discussions about this let's please do it by pm so this thread doesn't become totally hijacked.

As stated above I have watched this thread pretty closely and have seen nothing that needed to be removed.

I don't recall seeing it either ohiostorm when I was viewing it last night. The last post I saw was Opal Storm's. I can say that many times I'll read opinions but I don't necessarily remember each person's individual reply or who said what.

I'm sorry ohiostorm and fact that your posts are missing.

I will make my post again the best I can:

I really dont think GWB deserves a purple heart because of the thousands of lives he has killed. This number is partially out of his control. He really hasnt saved anyone however. I belive saving a life is a requirement for a purple heart.

You'd be wrong that saving a life is a requirement to receive the purple heart. All that it takes is an injury.

EDIT: Never mind, I can't read. It's just a wounded veteran who wants to give the president his Purple Heart. It's not an official awarding of a new Purple Heart, so I don't see the problem (and I'm not a conservative, so if anyone would have a problem, it would be me).

[s]I would strongly advocate retitling this thread to something like "Veteran to give President Bush a Purple Heart" or something like that, because it's not an official awarding of a Purple Heart (which would make little sense since Bush wasn't wounded or killed in combat). The current title is misleading.[/s]

Then I would agree if it is veteran giving it to him and not because of service.

I basically bashed the idea of giving him the purple heart and said to give it to the troops over there busting the butts for this country when we shouldn't even be over there. Why give it to a complete idiot??

The bottom line, in my opinion, is that Mr. Thomas earned that medal honorably and while many, including me, may have major differences with him regarding President Bush and his policies that's immaterial. Neither I nor anyone else has any business criticizing his decision of what to do with his medal. This is not a political issue - it's a moral one as far as I'm concerned. It's the position I took with regard to those veterans of Vietnam who tossed their medals over the White House fence. It's the position I take with regard to a veteran who sells his medals to get money for booze (tragic as that situation is) - and yes I know a guy who did that. I may agree or disagree, but a medal earned for honorable service is something outside normal parameters. It's hard to put into words, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that a medal is not an ordinary object, it's an embodiment of respect and honor - and to pass judgment on what the person who earned that medal chooses to do with it is to deny that nature.

Very well said, and I totally agree.
I have no problem with Mr. Thomas doing what he wishes with HIS medal.

Luke!

Now I remember reading your post. I hadn't glanced at the author's name but I do recall reading that opinion, of which I share 100%. It did exist folks.
