Eye Laser Surgery

I have had it with my glasses. I got new glasses, bifocals, and they broke. I returned them and they broke again. Done with that..... I went to Walgreens and got two pair, one for reading and one for distance. On our cruise, I had to carry both pairs at all times. I am done with glasses.

Has anyone here had the eye surgery. We have several friends who are extremely pleased with theirs. My only concern is that I could never wear contacts because I just cannot stand touching my eyeball. I am afraid they will do the surgery while I am awake and the thought of seeing instruments coming towards my eyes really scares me.

I will definately get it done, tho. I will probably go in well drugged up.....

A friend of mine just had the lasik done last week... She said when you get to the office they give you 2 valumes (sp?) and you mellow out really quick... then they put a few drops in your eyes, that numbs them... then they put this machine over your eyes and there is a little flashing red light... and this red light changes shapes... since you are already feeling good cause of the valume, you are really paying attention to this red flashing light. While you are looking at the red light its correcting your eyes. Nothing touches your eyes anymore. Its all done with lasers. She said there was a little pressure on her eyes, kind of like when you rub them... and the next few days they were a little sore... not really sore, but like there is sand in them. She said when she got to the office her vision was 20/60 and when she came back the next day for her post op her vision was 20/15!! I am thinking about having it done too!!! They also send you home with a few valumes as well... lol....

I know quite a few people who have had it and are quite satisfied with the results. Of course, not all people are good candidates for this type of surgery. I have asked the eye doctor about getting it done(I wear soft contacts) and he said that I am not really a good candidate for it due to my severe astigmatism. He also told me that I would still have to rely on some type of reading glasses or glasses even after it was done so for me the question is it worth it to lose the contacts and gain clearer vision in one realm while having to rely of glasses in another? Those are the types of things you need to figure out/get answered before going through with it. I am sure you know that but some think the laser eye surgery is a cure all and it isn't always even though it would be a help for at least part of ones problem.

Oh, I will definately find the best doctor I can find here. If I had it done and only had to rely on one pair of glasses, I would be satisfied. Thanks

I am seriously thinking about getting it done too!! Since it really doesnt hurt and there is nothing poking in your eyes... it doesnt sound too bad!!! She had the work done a week ago and her eyeballs are still bruised... when she lifts her eyelid you can see and she says she is still a little sensitive to the light, so she keeps her sunglasses on... but as for pain, she says they just feel a little swollen but thats it... she said it was worth the money... I think she said it was like $3700.00!!

If you already need reading glasses, lasek can't help with that - you'll still need them for reading after the surgery. Dave discovered he can't have the surgery because his corneas are too thin according to 3 different doctors. Who knew?

Oh, I thought the surgery corrected your eyes so you can read without glasses. I will have to have a good discussion with the doctor first. I don't want to spend all that money and still need glasses to read.

My husband had it done probably about 5 years ago. He had scar tissue on one eye from something that happened when he was young and he had an astigmatism. He does have to wear reading glasses but he doesn't mind that.

I'd like to do it but i've been told that those with thyroid problems are not candidates for lasik.
