The BOC storm that isn't. We got some banding in the area forming over the city between 12-1:20 and picked up about 5" of rain in that timeframe. It's early in the tropical season, but even wave energy can be deceiving. I'm sure I don't have to tell any of you folks about it because you're all into weather too, but a tropical deluge it was! Here are some of the pix from today (remainder are on CFHC News pages 5, 6).

Notice in the one above the water coming up out of the water system.

It's early June :). For everyone east of New Orleans, look out over the next few days. Anyone can get caught under a moisture train. Be careful between Mobile and Tampa and points 100 miles inland.

Great pics Steve! Luckily here in Tampa and St Pete most of the water runs to the GOM pretty quickly! We've had a tremendous amount of rain but most areas are ok.

A lot of businesses got water in them today. The Saint Charles Ave. Streetcar line became the road as much of St. Charles from uptown, through the CBD was flooded. Then some water got into a few French Quarter businesses and points further east. I didn't get crap done after 12:00 today as you can imagine. The story on the truck is that he was riding the sidewalk when the street collapsed under him. Only his rear bumper kept him from flipping over - and it dented the street. My secretary told me the driver was speeding west down St. Charles Ave. before turning onto Gravier St. (2 blocks west of Canal St.) and splashing people along the way as well as putting wake-water into businesses. Can't say it serves him right, but uh, it serves him right :).

Wow.... Impressive pictures. Slightly over 0.06 of an inch of rain per minute on average for 80 minutes is quite a bit of rain! :o

Yeah, it was really coming down. I had a bunch of shots of dancing manhole covers. That happens in New Orleans when the drains start backing up. The manholes that are anchored turn into fountains and ones that aren't, jump and ride on the water from the upwelling pressure. These things are like 80 pounds or so. But those pics were too dark. I'm going to try to get digital shots for all the tropical events we have this year in Da Big Easy so everyone can join the party. Now to figure out how to dry my Rockports before work tomorrow.

Steve seems like those so called pumps that were just upgraded are still not good enough to pump the water out of the city. Good grief if a strong cane blows in there. Hopefully that will never happen. I have family in Destrehan and they remember Besty well.

Great pictures Steve. Amazing what 5 inches of rain can do in such as short time. I can see what you were doing - outside taking pictures instead of working huh. I am going to get me a midget digital camera - so I can keep with me at all times to take more weather pictures.

Thanks for taking the time to post them here at Storm2k.

I work on Baronne St. and it was a mess. Water took a long time to go down , too. More rain on the way.

Glad to oblige everyone with pics. Here's a final picture of the hole the truck fell into. I put a shoe in the edge of the hole, and there's a pigeon behind it for reference.
