snow in florida this weekend

#1 Postby cpdaman » Mon Feb 12, 2007 9:20 pm

looks like a weak low pressure is set to move through the central or south central gulf on saturday or sat nite with a cold dome of high pressure to the north entrenched it looks like from jacksonville through gainsville to the big bend of florida north could get some light snow from this feature

temps are supposed to be 30-35 saturday nite

Maybe,it all depends on timing. If the cloud cover comes in too quick temps will have a difficult time getting cold enough. And there's only like a 20-30 percent chance of precip.Looks like a really slim chance right now but who knows,it did already snow in Orlando a few months back.

well 5 days out they almost always have slight chance of pops, there is most likely going to be a little storm but precip amounts can't be given with strong confidence because they are waiting for model consistensy in the mid term

If there is still a chance of this occuring within 24 hours of the event I might take a long drive up there.... haven't seen snow in over 3 years

Just because the surface temps are there doesn't mean your precip will be snow. The atmosphere has to be cold enough through all the levels for that to happen. Often in the south the dome of cold air is not thick enough for this to happen.
