D.C. travel question re: winter storm

#1 Postby HurryKane » Sun Feb 11, 2007 1:40 pm

Long time, no post. Apologies if this is the wrong forum for this question--I am supposed to fly into D.C. on Monday (tomorrow)/fly out on Wednesday (ha ha). Any area folks have a guesstimate as to the likelihood of my getting stuck in the airport on Wednesday due to the upcoming storm? Cancel the trip or no? Thanks.

Oh I'd love to see the snow! I just don't want to spend the night in the airport. :)

For what it's worth, I would feel more confident about taking off than landing..

No problems flying in tomorrow. But I think there's a very high probability that your Wednesday flight out may be delayed, if not cancelled. That storm system should be offshore Cape Hatteras by sunrise Wednesday. It's hard to be 100% certain where the rain/snow line will be yet, but just a slight deviation in the track of the low could mean the difference between rain/sleet in the morning/3-6 inches of snow late morning and afternoon or all snow - maybe over a foot of snow. The later you're flying out, the better the chance of your flight being delayed/cancelled due to heavy snow.

Thanks for the analysis. My flight is due to leave at 11:00 in the morning Wednesday. Guess I'll bring something to keep me occupied for a while :)
