Seems like the last 2 snow events......

#1 Postby NCGal » Thu Feb 01, 2007 2:52 pm

here in Raleigh, NC have only lasted a few hours before changing over to rain, with light snow accumulation. Is there any hope that we will see a decent snowfall this season or our we to last into the Winter for that to happen?? Thanks in advance. :rain: :rain:

Looks interesting for Friday and Saturday. GFS continues to show close to .5in. of precip with temperatures cold enough for snow aloft and at the surface. Here is what the NWS out of Morehead City is saying.

Long term /Friday through Monday/...the only real change to the
extended was to add chance rain/snow showers Friday night into
Saturday morning...with an area of low pressure at the surface associated
with a short wave rotating into the region from the west-northwest. 12z GFS
coming in pretty aggressive with this feature...but it appears too
aggressive. Still will show a trend toward a possible mix with
temperatures in the 30s during the evening dropping into the upper 20s
overnight. Any mix should transition to slight chance rain showers
Saturday as temperatures warm at the surface into the lower to middle 40s. Low
pressure will be sliding offshore Saturday. Sunday and Monday look
dry with high temperatures in the middle/upper 40s.

NWS Charlotte was on it, then backed off yesterday. Today they mentioned the GFS may be on to something.

All I can say is WOW! The gfs and euro both show a significant snow/ice storm for NC,VA, and TN. Look at this almost perfect CAD setup.

That has the look of trouble. NWS Charlotte has put in chance of rain/ snow for Tuesday. They have also added 30% snow for this Friday before 1 pm. You are correct, nice CAD looking setup, if it verifies.

With a 1038mb high over the Great Lakes and the low tracking up the coast, this has ALOT of potential to be a nice snow or ice storm. The Euro also supports the gfs idea, but shows NC getting more snow and less ice, if any.
