Because some us hate OU even more. If you have ever been to a UT athletic event you will hear two variations of Texas Fight. The younger generation has changed some of the words to honor the Landgrabers from up north. :lol:

Well, we didn't live in a swamp before, but now....yeah. :lol:

jschlitz...I have not had to use the sprinkler or water anything outside since last spring. Not once. We went from extreme drought last spring to rain-overload the rest of the year, and so far...this year. While we've had numerous flooding events since last spring (starting Memorial Weekend), this nasty light to moderate rain nearly every day (minus the past couple of days), is just as bad in keeping everything "swampified"
My sidewalk is partially gone...overtaken by the mud. I had to put a big piece of plywood across it to work sorta like a bridge because the sidewalk had sunk into the mud!! I'll have to fix it better later, but needed a temporary fix. We couldn't even get in the car without getting muddy. It's simply disgusting. A lot of the yard is a mini-lake/swamp and it's gonna take a lot of sunshine and no rain for a long time to dry it out.

Yeah, this weekend isn't impressing me either anymore. May be 50s for highs for a day or two or three with lows in the mid to upper 30s; nothing too extreme (though things can change).

At this point though I am finally ready to say goodbye to winter and hello to the springtime storms and 80-degree highs!

I am getting sick of being cold.

Maybe I'll finally get to so some yardwork I've been putting off due to the cold and wet weekends. This past weekend was great, but I was lazy.

Same here gboudx. I took a tour of the gardens today and see I have a good 3 weekends worth of work ahead of me. I hate the spring and fall cleanup and pruning activities of southern gardening, but the results sure pay off the rest of the year, so off I go to sharpen the pruning shears. :lol:

Time to chop down the banana plants and get ready for a new fresh crop

Its just amazing how fast they grow in the Spring. Soon time to weed and feed again

Onward to Spring and the severe weather season followed by the 2007 Hurricane Season.......the roller coast never ends.

Should be interesting to see how Severe season 2007 and Hurricane season 2007 shape up. From the looks of it, with the tornadoes in Florida, I am thinking we could be in for quite a bumpy spring.

I need to get some banana plants too... where do I get them, and how big should they be? I have no clue about plants.. My green thumb is brown....and where do I get some?

The banana plants were already planted when we bought the house. Find someone who already has banana plants and get them to pull out a few of the new sprouts. They are easily transplanted and grow like crazy.

Crazy is an understament on the banana trees. As far as severe goes, we may have to entertain the idea for early next week as areas E of I-35 look warm sectored ahead of a dry line feature. Could be the first severe WX event of the spring season.

Hey Yankeegirl,

They sell them at Houston Garden Centers.

I'm holding off on cutting mine back for a few more weeks just to be safe. The stalks/trunks themselves are still intact, so they don't need to be cut back - just the dead leaves. If you can save the stalks/trunks then they have a better chance of being mature enough to produce fruit.

Katdaddy, down there you should be in the clear. Something really, really unforseen would have to occur to produce another freeze down there.

We finally had all our banannas removed. What a royal PITA those things are! Another note on them: once a trunk has produced fruit, it will die off in a year or so anyway so you might as well cut down any that produced last year.

Yankee - I wouldn't lay down any money to buy them. If someone in your neighborhood has some plants, they always put up new shoots in the spring and I'd bet they'd be more than willing to let you dig some up.

Now - if anyone can tell me how to get rid of my shell gingers with something other than napalm, I'll be most thankful!

I did mention I'm an LSU alum right?

Anyway, why does it seem the aggies have more envy of UT, than the other way around? Is is a big-brother/little-brother complex or something? All I hear from the UT's I know is that they seem to dislike the land thieves more.

Sad when the winter weather isnt around and we have to talk about banana plants and Aggies just to keep the post at the top of the list.

To put the post back on topic....How about any chances to see a white valentine? Seems like the past few years we have had a good chance on that day.
