Southern Plains -- OK/AR/KS/MO Winter Weather Thread

#1 Postby wx247 » Fri Jan 19, 2007 10:51 am

Since there is so much nasty stuff coming our way over the next 7 days, I figured I would just make one thread so that it would be easier to organize and find posts on the topic for this general area.

As of this morning... Winter Storm Warnings are up for Western and Northern Oklahoma, including Ponca City and Oklahoma City. Winter Storm Watches are in place across the remainder of Oklahoma, including Tulsa and McAlester.

Across Kansas, a snow advisory is in effect for SW Kansas including Pratt and Dodge City. Further east, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect for places like Wichita, Pittsburg, Lawrence, Salina, and Topeka.

Only the NW 1/4 of Arkansas has any winter watch/advisory at this time. This would be a Winter Storm Watch and it covers places like Ft. Smith and Fayetteville.

In Missouri, a majority of that state is under a Winter Storm Watch. This would include Kansas City, St. Joseph, Sedalia, Joplin, Springfield, and Rolla. St. Louis, Poplar Bluff, and Columbia are NOT in this watch.

As Conestogo Flood posted, there is now a Winter Storm Warning in effect for NE Oklahoma. Since his posting, it has been expanded into the NW corner of Arkansas as well. No change on watches in Kansas or Missouri.

Curious....I thought Columbia would be in the watch zone. I suppose I need to read some MO AFDs now.

This evening Janie Columbia was added to the Winter Storm Watch, along with much of Eastern Missouri. Communities in Missouri now under the Winter Storm Watch include Columbia, Jefferson City, St. Louis, and Hannibal.

North Central Arkansas has also gone under a Winter Storm Watch this evening. This includes Harrison and Mtn. Home.

EC Oklahoma and WC Arkansas (including Ft. Smith) have now gone under a Winter Weather Advisory. This replaces the Winter Storm Watch for that area.

The NWS in Springfield, Missouri this evening will have an update in the 9:00 hour. It is during this time upgrades to watches will likely be made.

The NWS in Tulsa has updated/changed its advisories/warnings as some warmer has sneaked north. A *Winter Storm Warning* remains in effect across NW Arkansas and NE OK along and north of US Hwy 412. This includes Tulsa, Miami, and Rogers.

A *Winter Weather Advisory* is in effect south of the warning and includes Fayetteville and Muskogee. The winter weather advisory for places further south, including McAlester and Ft. Smith has been cancelled.

I took a bunch of pics. I need to upload the rest today and post a link. I say we had three to four inches here in my area.

I forgot to add that it is the heavy wet kind that sticks to trees, fences, and overhead lines.

How are things down there, Garrett? Were you impacted by this weekend's storm at all?

Kristi, we added about .2" to our freezing rain mess with just under an inch of sleet. Mom is still without power... she is starting to wear thin.

Unfortunately, no Kristi. No answer from Empire. It is just a waiting game. The good news is that the bitterly cold air is gone for at least a few days.
