Major winter storm setting up for TX and OK

#1 Postby wall_cloud » Fri Jan 19, 2007 6:27 pm

and nobody is talking about it? LUB and ABQ are forecasting 6-12" (isolated 15"), AMA is going 6-10" (isolated 12") and OUN is going 6-8" (isolated 10"). Its a pretty significant snowfall, but I guess if its not happening in your neck of the woods, its not a big deal.

Sorry wall_cloud, most of us are only interested in spending ridiculous amounts of time on S2K analyzing, debating, and then fretting over winter weather events that seldom live up to their hype.

In your case, it's the Real McCoy and we don't know how to respond to such things.

I know one thing: Today is one of those rare days I wished I lived in Lubbock or Amarillo ... y'all are going to get a true, old-fashioned snowstorm.

wall_cloud: I am discussing the impact on KS/OK/AR/MO in my thread. I assumed the Texas thread would cover the panhandle. This looks like a huge mess. Stay safe!!

Question for someone out there that knows what's going on in Tulsa...my boss was supposed to be back in Philly yesterday and she's not here yet and no one has heard anything and I can't really find anything...I am assuming power is still down? Or is the airport still closed? We're starting to get a little concerned here.

Thanking in advance for any info,
Mary

The people in Texas look at the Panhandle the way people in the United States look at Alaska. It's just a place that is way out there.

wall_cloud, I'd love to talk about it over some coffee or something. How much space do you have in your home? There's a lot of us in Southeast Texas who'd love to come visit you right about now. 8-)

Oh, and if that doesn't work out, post lots of pics! I have a feeling that's the only way I'm going to see any snow. But that's what I get for living in the armpit of Texas. hehe

Its the same for Florida. The panhandle and the penisula of Florida. Pensecola could be 25°F and Key West or Miami cold be 80°F.

I looked and could find no evidence of backlog at the Tulsa International Airport. Maybe I am looking in the wrong spot though. That sounds weird Mary.

Hey wall_cloud, I just took a look at the TxDOT cameras in Amarillo and there's a bunch of white stuff on the ground. What is that stuff?

Looks like y'all are getting your snow ... lucky dogs.

we're at 4 inches right now...hopefully we'll get another 2. Six is exactly what I wanted based on my forecast.

I just checked out the traffic cams on 287 between Amarillo and Dumas! Wow! I was on the stretch of highway right before New Years and it is currently covered in snow. You can't even see the highway under all that snow. That's got to be more than 6 inches, right? I sure wish I was up there right now. Very nice.

right now we are at 6" in south Amarillo. Still expecting several more inches. some locations will see more than 12". We only had 3.5" the entire winter last year.

Angelwing - Lots of friends in Tulsa and they are pretty much socked in. Many delays and cancellations at the airport. Residents are advised to fill up gas tanks if leaving the metro area. Bedroom communities have no power and you cannot get gas at those stations. Check out http://www.kotv.com or http://www.ktul.com for more info. Hope this helps....

we're not expecting too much with the next storm. The bulk of the snow should stay to our west after tonight.
