Possible major ice storm for the Mid-Atlantic

#1 Postby Lowpressure » Thu Jan 18, 2007 4:36 pm

NWS Charlotte discussion has already released a winter weather discussion for the area for Sunday into early Monday, and again for mid-week. First things first. Potential for a significant to major winter storm for this area in the form of ice per soundings. Models of course are not agreeing on the details and the wedge may or may not be classic wedge. Confidence seems high that most of the CWFA will see the potential for damaging ice accumulations. The comment was 1-2 degrees will make the difference from areas getting a cold rain or major ice issues. Stay tuned. In order to not crowd the page check the latest from NWS Charlotte, out of Greer SC.

NWS not nearly as bullish on ice event, still stating 1-2 degrees could make all the difference. We will see.

NWS Wilmington has increased temperatures by 10 degrees during the event, from 33 to 43. Wonder if everyone else will follow suit.
