What year was it in the early 70's when Florida recieved 2" snows and Georgia from Tifton northward got upwards of 8"? THis looks somewhat similiar.

My puter crashed a couple mths ago, could you post GFS lone ranger for me, thanks.

HEy Aggiecutter what about middle of next week? What is suppose to break loose? What do you see? I have noticed all day that the NWS and the local dfw stations have increased our frez. precp. chances from last night. It was suppose to be up in the 50's by Sunday but channel 8 WFAA had dallas at 40 for the high.

I told my hubby who has only been here 5years that normally we get a quick cold few days and then it jumps back up to normal or above..but this reminds me of the long cold spell of 89.

What does that mean in terms of temps at ground level?

Its at the 850 mb level (near surface) - there is some mixing so temps tend to be slightly warmer so don't take literally but it points to an artic outbreak with much colder temps for the peninsula down the road.

Maybe for your neck of the woods not S Florida were already in spring mode. A matter a fact we never left spring mode. Thw water temps down here never cooled off. I just don't see fronts making it down here, maybe just weakened troughs which change the wind direction but not the temps.

Actually in the very long range the GFS shows quite a storm for the Tennessee Valley around the 28th of the month. It forecasts a low to move along the southern Gulf States with much of Tennesse and northern Alabama, Miss and Georgia getting in on wintry precip.

But take it with a grain of salt this far out.

Looks like it will be the case for Texas, La... etc.... Lots of cold air ready to pump on in through at least mid - Feb... for those folks...

It does not look like this will be the case for Florida however.... Continued unseasonably warm especially for South Fla.... Our lows have been 10 to 15 degrees above normal consistently for the last month and a half....Daytime highs 8 to 10 degrees above normal... Actually I am really enjoying this..... I have lived here quite a few years, but also in Minnesota, the Northeast, and Canada.....Trust me I like this warmth a lot better....I get my snow and cold on my annual snow boarding trip to the Rockies every year!!

I do remember back in the day though it getting quite cold by Florida standards...... Seems like those days have been few and far between for a few years now, but hey that is why we live in Florida...

It has been strange this year though.... We are actually having to cut the grass once a week just like during the summer.... Usually you can go up to 3 weeks without cutting it in the winter... The pool is actually warm enough to jump in (without a heater).... That never happened before in January.... You can also hear summertime crickets chirping in the night like mid - July.....
