NWS has issued a Snow Advisory for most of N TX today.
Stronger short wave than expected has resulted in a large area of light to moderate snow across N TX. Dry low lowers have saturated overnight allowing snow to reach the ground.
Getting reports already from law enforcement of 1/4 to 1/2 in of accumulation and given radar trends and potential for banding of snow will show snow accumulation of .5 to 1 inch over the area.
Will try to look into this more over the next few hours however ice storm is ongoing over metro Houston and I am focused on that at the moment.
Extended:
Cold arctic air remains in place and winter precip. may return Friday and Saturday...quite uncertain on this and once again the focus is on near term conditions with really no time to examine the extended data...just a heads up at the moment.

Dr. Jonah Rainwater wrote:Well this is unfolding into a really big mess up here. Seems NOBODY was prepared for this. None of the roads are treated because NWS was apparently expecting the edge of the precip to stay about 50 miles south of here last night. I guess that since we have such an impressive track record of predicting the exact locations and natures of North Texas weather systems 12-24 hours in advance, nobody bothered to call up the salt-and-sand guys....![]()
Accidents already popping up everywhere, schools cancelled...I have work in a few hours.
I know... I think the local mets are back pedaling! Ch 8 sure is :*)
Didn't have a clue until I let the dog out, then my phone rang with my school phone tree being activiated. My cell phone is at school and I am LOST.

Jeff..how about up here in N/NW Harris county? Do you really think we will rise above freezing while Montgomery county stays below?
I am currently sitting at 30-degrees here on the west side of Spring and up in Conroe they are at 31-degrees. Why would they stay below freezing while I would not?
Just curious.

Temp recovery may be slow...but most of Harris County should rise above freezing by midday. I expect parts of Montgomery and Waller counties to rise above freezing also probably along and S of a line from Conroe to Hempstead.
