Things are mixed between sounding like it could be awful or just mildly rough? I don't know if the precipitation is going to stick around here long enough for the massive ice accumulation some were thinking was possible. Any updates would be greatly appreciated. I'm already banking on our first day of classes at UT on Tuesday to be cancelled.

There will likely be some freezing rain or sleet tonight through Tuesday. However, accumulations should be light.Diva wrote:Thanks Greg.![]()

Bear in mind, that elevated road surfaces such as bridges will likely have some ice. Otherwise, travel should be possible but certainly at a slower speed.

All Ice Storm Warnings and Freezing Rain Advisories in North Texas have been extended until Noon Today.
The good news is that the wintry precip in DFW is winding down and moved ESE of the area. The bad news is that many roads and sidewalks are iced over.Irving Independent School District didn't have to make a decision of whether or not to close the school or delay it for a couple of hours, because it's closed the next 2 days for student/teacher holiday.
But old man winter isn't quite through with us yet as a chance of rain mixed with snow has been forecasted for Wednesday in DFW.

Freezing line progressing into Austin now...with Mabry down to 33. Expect freezing rain to onset shortly and last through the day and into tonight.
BTW: KCLL is down to 33 now meshing better with surrounding 32 temps. at Brenham and Caldwell

Is this true?
Brenham always has this problem. There may be some sleet mixing in with the ZR...but snow is very questionable at this time. Icing moving into our northern coutnies at the moment.
Light sleet in Austin

No snow at Huntsville or College Station. These are automated stations which are simply unable to detect snow with any accuracy. For example, Jasper to the north of Orange was reporting moderate snow at 6 A.M with a temperature of 39. Oh for the days of human observations at reporting stations!Extremeweatherguy wrote:I heard on the news that many areas have seen some snow this morning (College Station, Huntsville, etc..) and that the upper atmosphere may be cooling down.

Concerning any risk of snow, it appears to be very slim and would be restricted to Tuesday or Tuesday night as the depth of the cold air increases. I would think that sleet would be more likely.

Can't be...I think someone is looking at bad obs and not looking at data. It's still 10C at 800mb. It doesn't go below freezing until 650mb.
