Finally talk of winter coming to southern Ontario

#1 Postby emagine » Fri Jan 12, 2007 10:52 pm

I am in Toronto (GTA) and till now winter has been like most areas- not happening! Now all the hype is this ice storm hitting our southern friends (my old homestead) in the states. Looks like it may come north and hit us. Depends who you listen to as the track and precip this storm could bring. But I would so love to see winter for the first time on this side of the border.

Any other Southern Canadians watching this ice storm?

We've been getting about 1-2cm of snow per overnight, that melts during the day.

Yep, this doesn't look bright for the people who are going to be affected by it. This winter was just been terrible so far in terms of snowfall and cold temps.

Yeah...I'm excited...our very first WINTER STORM WATCH issued now for the Greater Toronto Area for *significant snowfall* Sunday night into Monday.... seems also with Easterly winds with this system (since the main LOW will pass to the south of the Lower Great Lakes...and with abnormally mild Lake Ontario temperatures.... the area along the northern shores of Lake Ontario could see significant *LAKE ENHANCEMENT* of the snowfall....

i'm so excited, i could burst.
i'm ready!!!!
wooooooo bring it on!

I am sure the resorts around here will love to see this storm. I will admit I am getting a kick out of the different forcasts for the same storm. Enviroment Canada keeps changing the timeframe it could hit and the cm. The locals are all different tonight as well. One said look for a warning to be done soon for the snowfall, another says just a little snow plus some ice and another said we will have snow on the ground before evening.

Shall I flip a coin?

As a girl from the shores of NC, I am ready for this southern belle to see SNOW. And not dusty stuff, I want to see a good old dumpin :D

WINTER STORM WATCH has been UPGRADED to a SNOWFALL WARNING for the city of Toronto and most areas of Southern Ontario. It is gonna be a crazy commute in to work tomorrow morning.
Most areas expect to see 10-15cm of snow and a mix of ice pellets (sleet) and even freezing rain.

For Ontario..this is what you call a standard run-of-the-mill winter storm... however, we have not had a winter storm affect us for over 10 months! So this is why they are saying this will be a HIGH IMPACT storm..also due to the timing.

One good thing, I noticed no power lines near me so I assume they are all underground up here? Never noticed till now.
