and where exactly would the troops come from? I supported going into Iraq, but we don't have the capability to start another war. Iran is not Iraq, the regime won't fall in 3 weeks. We will need 2 to 3 times as many troops(we never had even 200k in Iraq), and casualties will be MUCH higher.
Yeah, this is just a wonderful and great idea.

This all really seems like a worsening nightmare. Can we even imagine what it will be like once a military strike is imminent or occurs? All the horrors predicted to occur once this war begins must be so unimaginable if you really look into it.
There is just something about this that isn't right, I think everyone is starting to have that feeling.

I agree that something on grander scale is inevitable....But it will be fought far away and we will only see it on the tube...

A serious air war will work. It brought Slobo to his knees in 1999. However, for it to work, we have to be prepared to kill thousands of civilians, like we did in Serbia. That is what turned the Serbs against Slobo, they were tired of living in fear and air raid shelters

Feederband,
Please see the below:
General Barry McCaffrey (ret.), who served as commander in chief of the U.S. Southern Command, says the Army has now reached a breaking point that threatens our security. (Rocky Mountain News):
The Iraq war has left the United States military in critical condition, stretched beyond its limits in manpower and equipment and in danger of “breaking,” a retired U.S. Army general said here today.
“The United States Army is stumbling toward the edge of a cliff. It’s starting to unravel,” said Gen. Barry McCaffrey, speaking at a homeland defense symposium. “It has about $61 billion in equipment shortages. It has a $50 billion shortfall in the vital equipment and parts you need to run a war.”
…The Army’s 14 brigades now deployed in Iraq have their full complement of troops with competent leadership, said McCaffrey, but “the other two-thirds of the Army’s combat brigades are not ready to fight.”

Sounds like a little politics maybe involved in that...I will dig up some up to date numbers...

OHhhh Mannn TAXES are going UP even if a air war begins.. CHA CHING.. ugh. Unless of course they just take out Nuke facilities.. That would not require an extended war and that is the issue..were not going to ravage the coutryside at least I hope not.. This is not Iraq. Many Iranians are not happy with their Government's descisions and they are not a collective terroristic group running the country like Iraq or the Taliban were.

No we don't have "plenty" of troops. This has been well-documented in the news recently with regards to the surge in Iraq. There was even some discussion as to whether we could afford to send 21,000 more to there. The military has said recently that if something comes up, we wouldn't be able to handle it. *cough* especially a war that would need more troops than we've ever had in Iraq.
I am just against this idea. Even with Iraq the diplomacy seemed to drag on forever. Let Israel strike Iran if they want to, but the U.S. needs to STAY OUT OF IT. If we launch airstrikes, they will launch attacks against our 160,000 troops in Iraq. It won't simply be an "air war".

If that ever was to happen I fear no one will be able to stay out of it...It will change the world as we know it...
That part of the world needs to change as we know it.. not religiously of course..

Israel can't do it alone. Not with every surrounding country almost against them. One wrong move or word and Israel is in for other problems. IMO.
The USA doesn't have to be the "saving grace" in this war. Let other countries handle the situation right now, and just keep the USA tuned in the event they are needed.

Not to mention the fact we are Israel's allies...oh, and I have a question...in the troop thing above, I noticed it said U.S. Army, now what about the USMC, Navy, Air Force, National Guard and reserves? the Army isnt all of our troops, and they never will be, regardless of how much money they get over the Marines...feederband wrote:Brent wrote: Let Israel strike Iran if they want to, but the U.S. needs to STAY OUT OF IT.

Your opinion is valid about the US not having to go win everyone's battles for them.
I think you overestimate the Arab danger to the Israeli state. Sure they don't want another general war with the Arabs, but then they have a peace treaty with Egypt, and even should that fall have the conventional arms to decimate any Arab navy, airforce, and most importantly ground forces.
