I'm only 5 blocks from the Gulf so most of it clears out pretty fast. The people who will be in real trouble are those along the rivers. With the rain non-stop in the central part of the state it will be days before the rivers crest. Break out the canoes and 22 pistols for the snakes!
Yeah..the river situation is going to be interesting...It would really be bad if we got a tropical system anytime soon!!!!! :o

Totally unexpected---this morning they said a 40% chance of rain and never mentioned heavy rains or potential flooding. Totally took us off guard.

Interesting, to the east and northeast of the western coast of Florida; across the central portion of the state... my area southeastward to Orlando (the Orlando TV viewing area) have 60% to 80% rain chances for today, tonight and tomorrow.

You guys CANNOT get a Tropical Storm within a month of this situation, or it will be just disastrous! :o It's going to be a mess here, too, with heavy rain expected for the next 48 hours! 2-4 inches expected and I'm sure that's nothing for you guys down there in Florida! :o

Almost like a swamp if you ask me. Why can't the desert southwest get some of that rain, where they desperately need it the most? :(

My word that's a lot of rain! :o I see a lot of 15 inch plus on that map, which is CERTAINLY not good news. 10"+ is also very bad news. :(

Flood watch extended again!!!!!

Watch Extended Into Sunday...

The Flood Watch continues for the following counties through Sunday evening:

Charlotte... Citrus... Hernando... Hillsborough... Levy... Manatee... Pasco... Pinellas... Sarasota... lee... Sumter... Polk... Hardee... DeSoto... Highlands..

... Synopsis... deep tropical moisture will continue across all of west central and southwest Florida tonight. The deepest moisture will remain from Tampa Bay to Fort Myers and points east on Sunday... but scattered thunderstorms north of Tampa will still drop locally heavy rain causing some flooding.

... Rainfall... in many areas... the ground is fully saturated from the combination of repeating torrential rains and minimal drying due to the lack of sunshine. Any additional heavy rainfall may begin to cause more serious problems... including widespread freshwater flooding. Such flooding would close roads and flood pasture land.

Widespread rains of 2 to 4 inches... with locally 6 or more inches... is expected over the next 24 hours. The heaviest rain will fall this evening and again Sunday afternoon. Heavy amounts will be spotty in the nature coast... but any local spots of heavy rain will cause at least minor flooding problems. Some low lying... poor drainage areas remain flooded from rains earlier in the week.

... River flooding... rivers across the entire region are rising steadily... with flooding either occurring or expected to occur on all area rivers.

Residents along rivers... creeks... and streams in west central Florida should keep abreast of the latest river forecasts and warnings from the National Weather Service... and prepare now to move to higher ground should conditions warrant. Some area rivers will see levels not reached since the 1998 el nino related floods.

... Urban flooding... the soil is saturated in many urban and suburban locations as well. The heavier thunderstorms will produce rainfall rates up to 3 inches per hour... which may produce flash flood conditions this evening and perhaps again on Sunday. Poor drainage and low lying locations are at greatest risk.

Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio and other local media for updates... including advisories or warnings... later today.

(At least) Sumter county was added to the FLOOD WATCH last night and as you can see remains in effect today.

Typically Flood Watches and/or Warnings continue after rainfall has stopped because of the lag time with what has already fallen.
