Good web site for you 'schlitz, regarding palms in freezing weather - lots of details!

It is now 19 degrees in Amarillo and 16 in Dalhart....There is no way that Amarillo will reach 27 degrees today. This is the second time Amarillo has lowered the afternoon high, it looks like they will need to lower it once again.

My area's now under a WSW huh? It's definitely gonna be a busy weekend for us Texans.

Any bets on how many idiots will hit the icy roads (and each other) early next week? I just GOTTA go to work!

Believe me, there's bound to be plenty. 7 years ago, a driver ran into a "No Parking" sign in my neighborhood.

This might be old news...but I just saw this on the NWS website forecast discussion, we saw it on the models last week, but the folks at the NWS are not keying on the possiblity of snow from Austin to the coast next tuesday, wednesday time period. Should be interesting.

DISCUSSION...SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS MAY SEE THE FIRST HALF OF NEXT WEEK
WITH SOME ICING PROBLEMS. BUT INITIALLY FOR TODAY AND THROUGHOUT
MUCH OF THE WEEKEND..TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO BE MUCH ABOVE NORMAL
FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR WITH CHANCES FOR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
AS A SERIES OF DISTURBANCES MOVE OUT OF MEXICO EMBEDDED IN A STRONG
UPPER LEVEL SUBTROPICAL JET. AS AN UPPER LOW LIFTS OUT INTO THE
PLAINS LATE SUNDAY INTO MONDAY..A COLD ARCTIC AIRMASS WILL SPILL
SOUTHWARD OVER THE SOUTHERN PLAINS INTO SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS. THE
SPLIT FLOW PATTERN WILL HELP KEEP THE ARCTIC AIR ANCHORED ACROSS
THE AREA THROUGH THE MIDDLE PART OF NEXT WEEK WITH CONTINUED
IMPULSES ALOFT IN THE SUBTROPICAL JET PRODUCING FREEZING
PRECIPITATION MAINLY DURING THE NIGHTTIME AND EARLY MORNING
PERIODS MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING. THIS PRECIPITATION WILL
BE AIDED BY CYCLOGENESIS ALONG THE MID TO LOWER TEXAS COAST IN
CONJUNCTION WITH THE ARCTIC AIRMASS IMPINGING ON THE MARINE LAYER.
FORECAST SOUNDINGS SHOW THE FREEZING RAIN TRANSITIONING OVER TO
SNOW DURING THE TUESDAY NIGHT TO WEDNESDAY MORNING TIME FRAME.
AS DRIER AIR BUILDS INTO THE AREA WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY

PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO END BUT IT SHOULD REMAIN WELL BELOW
NORMAL TEMPERATURE WISE.

WXman 57 do you think that a WWA or watch will have to be issued for Central Texas on Saturday (including the hill country)? I have to go to a function tomorrow night and I'm debating on weather I should go or not.
Thanks.

I might be one of those idiots but not by choice. I have pets to feed at home and a wife in the hospital. I can't be at two places at once  The only way between the two is via automobile unfortunately. Now if the roads are a complete glaze I might have to wait it out at the house....hoping I don't have to rush to the hospital.

Boy Jschiltz, I do not envy you. It will be a mess, that is for sure (If this comes to fruition).

...A WINTRY MIX OF PRECIPITATION ACROSS SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS POSSIBLE LATE SUNDAY INTO EARLY WEDNESDAY...

A VERY STRONG COLD FRONT WILL PUSH INTO THE HILL COUNTRY AND SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY. AS MUCH COLDER AIR CONTINUES TO PUSH INTO SOUTH TEXAS SUNDAY INTO SUNDAY NIGHT, TEMPERATURES WILL FALL TO FREEZING IN THE HILL COUNTRY BY MONDAY MORNING AND MUCH OF THE REST OF SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS MONDAY NIGHT. BECAUSE OF A SERIES OF FAST MOVING UPPER AIR DISTURBANCES MOVING IN FROM THE WEST MONDAY THROUGH EARLY WEDNESDAY, THERE WILL BE A CHANCE OF WINTRY MIX OF PRECIPITATION DEVELOPING OVER THE HILL COUNTRY EARLY MONDAY, AND ALL OF SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING.

THE PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN AS FREEZING RAIN OVER THE HILL COUNTRY AS EARLY AS MORNING MORNING...SPREADING ACROSS MUCH OF THE REST OF SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS BY MONDAY NIGHT. AS THE FREEZING AIR DEEPENS, THE FREEZING RAIN WILL LIKELY TRANSITION INTO SLEET AND/OR SNOW SOMETIME MONDAY NIGHT OR TUESDAY MORNING.

TEMPERATURES COULD BRIEFLY WARM ABOVE FREEZING TUESDAY AFTERNOON, HOWEVER BY TUESDAY NIGHT ADDITIONAL DISTURBANCES WILL INCREASE THE MOISTURE IN THE SUB-FREEZING ATMOSPHERE, TRANSITIONING THE PRECIPITATION BACK TO SLEET OR SNOW ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA.

LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS OF ICE AND SNOW ARE EXPECTED AT THIS TIME
WITH ICING PROBLEMS MAINLY ON BRIDGES, OVERPASSES AND EXPOSED OBJECTS. HOWEVER EVEN LIGHT ICE ACCUMULATIONS CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS HERE IN SOUTH TEXAS.

THE TIMING AND DEPTH OF THE COLD AIR PUSH WILL BE CRITICAL WITH
THIS POSSIBLE WINTER WEATHER EPISODE, THEREFORE LISTEN TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR YOUR LOCAL MEDIA FOR UPDATES.

I didn't see that, but I'm pretty sure I know which station you're talking about since the others show temps below freezing.
Watch KFDM. :)

If I'm reading this right from the 12z GFS, it looks like most of Texas will not get out of the 30's until next Thursday? I think by that time we will welcome some much warmer temps.

and the hype begins.... CH 2 was just showing icy roads up to the north, in OK, and they are saying this is what is coming in our direction... Great! By the time I get to the store, there is going to be nothing left! They still had highs in the 60's for Sunday,...So all I have heard about this system is ice... Are we going to get storms tomorrow ahead of the front?

You know what I miss right now. I miss our local met (Frank Billingsley-KPRC in Houston) and his dog (Radar). Gosh, they sure could brighten up a room. My father stated that the dog was on vacation. I can not verify that. My colleague here at the library which I work for (Houston Community College) states that they WILL not close down the local public schools and that the the models are trending too WARM. Realize we are librarians arguing about this. (LOL) I bet him a Dr Pepper the whole city will be closed down on Tuesday. I just have this feeling.

I have lunch riding on the fact Austin will have serious probs with the weather. Glad to know I am not the only person who "bets" on the weather.

Living life in the fast lane. That is what hybrid librarians do. What I mean by that is that he and I have MLS's and an MA in history. The only difference is that I am working on my PhD in history and he has chosen to stop where he is. :) I do wonder what accumulations will we (Houston-Humble) get?

Has forward movement of the front slowed this morning? Been watching Bowie, TX since 8:00 a.m. - front had passed Wichita Falls, but still not to Bowie area yet. Any thoughts?
