Winter Cancel for Central and Southern Florida

#1 Postby boca » Wed Jan 03, 2007 6:44 pm

I'm starting this thread specifically for Central and South Florida. We had one shot of cold air in late November around Thanksgiving, that was it. I'm hopeing in February a patern change might commence.

well certainly South Florida's days are numbered. A South Florida winter usually happens for just 3 short months out of the year: December, January, and February -- and it really should be called "winter." If you think about it we have less than 8 weeks left but the time is ticking....

Not ready to throw the towel in yet but if things don't change by Jan 31st I will be.

I can't remember such a warm winter. I hope it is not portending an active hurricane season for the South Florida.

Here in Boca Raton lows are going to be in the 70s and highs in the 80s for the next 7 days at least. Scattered showers and storms each day.

Just like summer.

Late December and January always seems to be when we get our coldest weather. Doesn't seem to be happening this year. The last few days, it's been downright hot.

Miami AFD doesn't seem to be indicating "cold air" coming down here anytime soon, either.

Maybe, but 62 degrees in Charlotte on the 4th of January is a bit ridiculous, especially when it is overcast.

No complaints here. I love our El Nino winters. 97-98 was tons of fun. This one has already featured a couple decent squall lines. I like it this way.

The typical S. FL winter features the most boring weather imaginable. I'm glad to have a break from it.

It's hard not to say winter cancel with weather like this. I just found an AZALEA blooming in the yard here! This is not January weather!

Hmmm... expecting winter in Central and South Florida is much like expecting talent from Britney Spears's career.

Any of you folks take a look at the 00z GFS yet?

http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod ... /fpc.shtml

I know the good stuff is in the long range, but it matches nicely with the ensembles and corresponds with the time frame when the NAO might begin to tank. The 00z GFS is quite extreme, but it may not be too far off. Any time you get a high in the Gulf of Alaska, a high over Greenland, and cold air in Canada, good things are in store.

You Texans will especially enjoy it!

Let's not say winter cancel yet. PAC longwave pattern will amplify and begin to draw in colder arctic air in about a week and a half.

Let alone that Spear has not produced an album in a while. South Florida rarely gets cold to begin with. It's usually warm.

El Nino winters in central & southern FL are a lot more entertaining than LA Nina winters like last year's, last year it was down right boring. I'll take this milder, wetter & stomier winter over a colder & drier winter anytime.

Its now Jan 13th and Wednesday its supposed to cool down to 65F at night. Back into the 80's by next weekend. The surf temps aren't cooling down either. 76F off Miami Beach.
