Florida panhandle shouldn't be part of FL with these temps

Two words why South Florida from about Jupiter south along the east coast stays warm and why the west coast of Florida or panhandle is not as warm in the winter as the southeast coast of Florida:
GULF STREAM (current has water temps close to 80F)
I have seen from time to time in the winter when temps gets cool enought that late night temps or early morning temps along the coasts of Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade can rise nearly 25F degrees in an hour once the winds have just enough of an easterly component to tap into that warmth.

Florida is a VERY large state hence the temperature extremes I guess. I wonder if the same holds for California? I'll never forget a bus trip from Florida to California. It was in the eighties when I left Tampa so I had a short sleeve shirt and jeans on. Pulled into El Paso at three in the morning and it was below freezing. I must have told dozens of people, " I didn't know it got cold in Texas". All I had was a shawl to keep warm. Talk about a shock, my body didn't know what was going on.

Back in 2002 Crestview got down to 14 degrees during one artic blast. The rural areas of the panhandle usually see upper teens once every year or so and it usually occurs in the middle of January, not early Dec.I can't imagine what January is going to be like if this trend continues.Extremeweatherguy wrote:I've noticed the latest forecast for Tallahassee is calling for 18F! Those are amazing temperatures for Florida in the heart of winter...let alone early December! BRR!!
When was the last time the panhandle was in the teens?
