A Taste of Texas Winter...Can I have some More PLEEZE?
Wow what a great taste of winter for Texas...just wondering if we can have a second helping in the near future? I believe I have seen some post stating a Mother Load coming down by next weekend? Is that still showing up in the runs or has it vanished? All this cold has made me want more of it.

Looks like two more blasts of winter could be on the way. One likely on Sunday and another toward the middle to later part of next week. Whether either of these will bring winter precip. chances back to TX is uncertain right now, but more cold weather looks like a good bet. Most areas will remain below normal (temp.-wise) through the next 7-10 days.
In fact: The Houston area is forecast to stay below 70F during the next 7 days, and there is even a chance we may not break 60F (and it will be even cooler in north Texas). This is a very prolonged cool stretch for sure.

Yeah even over here in northern Florida it's going to be pretty chilly for the next several days.NWS has overnight lows in Pensacola in the 30's all this weekend and into next week, usually what I would expect in late Dec/early Jan...not late Nov.The inland areas will experience freezing temps almost every night.

You live in South Florida.

Anyway... we've been near or over 70 since last Wednesday, and it's 70 right now, but we won't see 50 tomorrow and we're going to not get above 60 for at least a week. Several mornings in the 20's.

None of the NWS offices around the state are saying much about any upcoming cold air. Most of them are saying near normal or slightly below normal in the next seven days.

You want my meteorological opinion...
Well, from my amatuer point of view, the models (a week away mind you) are showing a another shot of cold air along with a disturbance bubbling up in the Gulf.
As of now, the Euro is most promising concerning the cold air. The GFS is not quite as optimistic yet...not that it ever is until the last minute.
Here's the 00z Euro loop. Keep an eye on day 7.

Here's the 00z GFS around day 7/8.

If we could combine the two, we sure would be in buisness! Jackson NWS took note of this in their afternoon discussion yesterday. They haven't mentioned much about it today. It will be something fun to watch through the weekend.
Edited to add NWS Jackson's thoughts from this morning:
AS THE HIGH SHIFTS EAST WEDNESDAY ANOTHER NORTHERN STREAM SHORTWAVE WILL BEGIN DROPPING SOUTH OUT OF THE NORTHERN PLAINS WHILE A SOUTHERN STREAM SHORT WAVE MOVES EAST FROM THE SOUTHWEST CONUS. THESE TWO SYSTEMS WILL BEGIN TO INCREASE RAIN CHANCES OVER OUR REGION FOR THE LATER HALF OF THE WEEK. THE SOUTHERN STREAM WAVE IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP A SURFACE LOW OVER THE WESTERN GULF AND INCREASE RAIN CHANCES IN THE SOUTH WHILE THE NORTHERN STREAM WAVE TRIES TO SEND ANOTHER REINFORCING SHOT OF COLD AIR OUR WAY. CLOUDS WILL BEGIN INCREASING OVER OUR CWA FROM THE SOUTHWEST WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THE NORTHEAST SHOULD REMAIN DRY THURSDAY BUT WL INCLUDE SLIGHT CHANCE POPS IN THE WEST AND SOUTH. BETTER CHANCES ARE EXPECTED AREAWIDE THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY AS THE LOW MOVES EAST ACROSS THE NORTHERN GULF AND A COLD FRONT DROPS INTO OUR AREA.

It won't feel much colder than we already are (since we are already cold), but the temps. will certainly be below normal. The normal high in Houston this time of year is 67/68F and the normal low is 45/46F. The highs the next 7 days will mainly be in the 50s and the lows mainly in the 30s here in Houston (10-15F below normal...with up to 20F below normal on the coldest days/nights). The weather over the next 7 days will be more in line with what we should expect in January (avg. January high is near 60F, low is near 40F).double D wrote:Extremeweatherguy wrote:Looks like two more blasts of winter could be on the way. Yeah your right, and the Austin/San Antonio NWS has gone much colder for the extended by as much as 10 degrees cooler.
