potential for surprise snow storm tonite

#1 Postby cpdaman » Tue Nov 21, 2006 7:32 pm

due to a few factors in place i beleive (despite the lack of signifigant snow in any major forecasts) that there is indeed a signifigant (at least 25%) chance of a considerable snow storm ( 3 inches plus) for western south carolina and west north carolina as well as possible spotty areas in ext. eastern tenn. and sw virginia and poss. ne georgia with the potential for areas like charlotte, and winston salem to be included in this

areas further to the east like coatal sc i would not anticipate to be involved (despite morning flakes) because of the amount of warmer atlantic air that has worked its way in above the surface.

with a storm of this magnitude it is quiet possible that my est. amounts could be on the light side and somewhere could see 6-10 inces of the white stuff pile up with rates of 2 inches (of heavy wet snow) capable of falling or possibly more especially if the band of heavy precip (which should have a fairly sharp cut off to it's westerly progression reaches the mountains)

btw history shows, there is a trend that alot of southern snow fall events go unforecasted!

peace out

Ay Caramba!

TWC is saying 50 in Anderson right now (9:20 pm), and rain moving in with the surface low.

You never say "never" but I'm thinking too warm. Just a cold Dixie rain in store for tonight.

It's now 1:10 in SC... Temps have risen quite a bit during the night. It's now even sort of pleasant out of the wind. At sunset, temps were around 39. They are now 47.

Warm air intrusion from the occluded front has wrapped all the way around the low, which is gradually warming the upper layers from the 925-700mb level, moderating the cold pocket observed earlier today....

(Ironically the coldest pocket now is south into Southern GA and Northern FL)....
