Detroit received its earliest measurable snow on record. From the Detroit National Weather Service Forecast Office:

Snow Squalls Blast Southeast Lower Michigan and Sets Records

...EARLIEST MEASURABLE SNOWFALL AT BOTH DETROIT AND FLINT AND TIES AT SAGINAW....

SNOW SHOWERS AND SNOW SQUALLS ASSOCIATED WITH AN UNUSUALLY COLD CORE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER THE GREAT LAKES HAS BROUGHT THE EARLIEST MEASURABLE SNOWFALLS TO BOTH DETROIT AND FLINT.

DETROIT`S EARLIEST MEASURABLE SNOW HAD BEEN OCTOBER 13TH, 1909 WHEN 0.4" OF AN INCH FELL IN A VERY SIMILAR TYPE STORM THAT BROUGHT AN UNUSUALLY EARLY BLAST OF WINTER-LIKE WEATHER. IT ALSO SNOWED ON THE 12TH IN 1909 BUT ONLY A TRACE FELL. OFFICIALLY AT DETROIT METRO AIRPORT TODAY /12TH/, 0.2" OF AN INCH OF SNOW FELL IN QUICK BURSTS OF SNOW. OFFICIALLY HERE AT THE NWS AT WHITE LAKE, 1.6" OF SNOW FELL. AT FLINT, 1.6" INCHES OF SNOW FELL AND THIS WIPED OUT THE OLD OFFICIAL EARLIEST MEASURABLE RECORD OF 3.5" ON OCTOBER 19TH, 1989. SAGINAW EARLIEST SNOWFALL OCCURRED ON OCTOBER 12TH, 1909 WITH 0.8" OF AN INCH. SO FAR TODAY, 0.3" OF SNOW HAS FALLEN.

I haven't found anything on Detroit setting a record yet but here are some I could find.

... Record daily maximum snowfall set at Grand Rapids...

A total of 1.4 inches of snow has fallen at Grand Rapids as of 2 PM.
This breaks the record snowfall for the date... which was 0.2 inches
set in 1909. This is also the most snow for so early in the season
and the second earliest measurable snow on record. The earliest
measurable snow on record was 0.1 inches set on October 7 2000. The
record for the earliest inch or greater of snow was broken by a full
week. The old record was on October 19 1989 when 4.5 inches fell.

... Record daily maximum snowfall set at Lansing...

A total of 0.7 inches of snow has fallen at Lansing as of 2 PM. This
breaks the record snowfall for the date... which was 0.5 inches
set in 1909. This is also the most snow for so early in the season
and ties the record for the earliest measurable snow.

... Record daily maximum snowfall tied at Muskegon...

A trace of snow has fallen at Muskegon as of 8 am today. This ties
the record set in 1909 and tied in 1921... 1979... and 1988.

More snow accumulations are possible today... so these records may be
added to before midnight.

It's true. Global warming could cause more extreme weather events for earth. This may include snowstorms.
