I did notice the commercials also...they really suck...though did anyone notice the Iwo Jima commerical? Looks like a good movie, and as the son of two former Marines, I may have to go watch it :D

Another thing - they isolated all 3 until the end. So it felt like 3 stories going on.

Where have I seen the actress playing Juliette? She looks so familiar.

I know where I've seen her! She was on ER for a while. But probably on Boston Legal too.

I just read on Ausiello the other day about Elizabeth Mitchell joining Lost so that must be who you guys are talking about. I haven't seen the Lost premiere yet, but I recorded it for a coworker. EM played Kerry's first girlfriend (that we knew of) on ER...the psychiatrist Kim Legaspi. Man, I miss that storyline. Way better than the one with the firefighter. She was in the movie Frequency with Dennis Quaid, in The Santa Clause 2 with Tim Allen, and in *gagmewithaspoon* Gia with Angelina Jolie where she also played a lesbian *double gagme since it opposite AJ.* Oh yeah, and she also played Linda McCartney in a movie about her life and battle with cancer. I guess I go watch what I recorded and see what all the fuss is about.

Shawn - here's what all the fuss is about. For a season premiere, this one left a lot to be desired. To me, it felt like a mid-season episode, non-sweep time I might add. An episode smack dab in the middle. Not much happened. And as for the commercials, I'm cracking up reading posts on other boards. People keep saying - get Tivo, get a DVR. Well, that is not the point at all! For the record, I have last night's episode on two recordings, VCR and DVR. And we watched live in High Def on the basement TV, for full effect. LOL Get all that? The point is this - it was an hour long show but if you subtract commercial air time from story content, to me it felt like we saw say 20 minutes of actual Lost time. I'm exaggerating of course. But when they give you a 5 minute scene and then at least 5 minutes of commercials, you find yourself saying and I quote - WTF! My daughter did and I chimed right in. Yep, mother and daughter were both cussing a blue streak last night. Sorry, but saying that mid-hour felt darn good. Cause I was mad at those writers!

So that's what all the fuss was about! LOL

Found the review on TV Guide. I promised myself I wouldn't be posting these this season for any of our fave shows this year (way too time consuming) but here it is. Haven't even read it, it's quite long. Whatever did the reviewer have to write about! I'd say a show about nothing but that catch phrase has been used already....he he

October 4, 2006: Big Bad Ben

We finally discovered that Henry Gale's "real" name is Ben, or at least that's what the other Others call him. Tonight was time for him to get a little bit of payback by torturing Jack, Kate and Sawyer. I seriously got chills when he told Kate that he was trying to make her feel more comfortable because "the next two weeks are going to be very unpleasant." Ben is one very creepy dude no matter what he's called. I'm still fairly clueless as to the scientific purpose for capturing the some of the crash survivors (how weird was it to see the Others perspective of the crash?) and taking their blood and watching them in their cages, but I've just got a feeling that it can't be good.

I'm still marveling that the Others live in this pretty suburban looking community and engage in normal activities like a book club discussion. Though what Ben would have had against Carrie is beyond me. Is he against telekinesis? Does he hate scary books? Perhaps he liked the movie version better? Or was it just because there is some sort of rift between him and Juliet? I definitely sensed some tension there, especially when Ben had no problem locking her out and potentially letting her drown.

Speaking of the Hydra station, I guess that must be where they keep the shark that we saw in the first season. But just to round things out they've got dolphins too. At first I thought the Dharma logo was an octopus or squid, but a Hydra makes more sense. The mythical Greek creature kept regenerating its heads. That's kind of how the Others seem, Ethan and some of his colleagues may have died at the hands of the castaways but it seems like the Others have only come back stronger.

Jack "the repo man" was held captive under the bunker by Joliet and her grilled cheese sandwich, but that caused him some serious flashbacks. I was actually praying that Jack's dad didn't sleep with Sarah. I'm not sure I could have dealt with that. I figured for sure that if his dad was involved was going to be the question that Jack posed to Juliet when he discovered that they had his entire life story in one convenient folder. But even though Sarah didn't sleep with Jack's dad, she did cut him to the quick with her reasoning for her new beau, "It doesn't matter who he is, it just matters who you're not." Ouch. That's gotta hurt.

Now if the Others live in this isolated little community in the mountains, how do they have access to all this personal information about the castaways? Is someone on the outside emailing or faxing them the dirt on the passengers whose names were on the manifest?

I find it entirely fascinating that the Others seem to be keen on gathering information from Jack, Kate and Sawyer in different ways: Trying to make Kate cozy by giving her a pretty new dress and letting her shower; Having the persistent but soft-spoken Juliet wear Jack down and break his spirit; and dealing with Sawyer like he's a caged animal.

Sawyer befriended fellow captive Karl who hatched a failed escape plan. But is Karl working with the Others or is he an outcast from the group? I thought some of the most entertaining parts of the episode were watching Sawyer struggle with the food-reward system. ("What? You talkin' to me now Chachi?") Interesting that the Others claimed it only took the bears two hours to solve the food problem. Would these be the Polar bears? That would explain why they were roaming loose in the jungle and why the big cages were empty. Polar bears do like fish, which was the treat that Sawyer earned himself, so it would make sense. Sweet that he shared his hard earned reward with Kate. I'm wondering though if Kate had said "Jack and Sawyer" instead of "Sawyer and Jack" would they have dumped her in the room opposite Jack and watched their actions instead? It seems like the Others are definitely testing some aspects of human relationships, but to what end I'm clueless.

Is formerly-fake-bearded guy really gay? I thought his comment that Kate wasn't his type was a pretty good signal. That's probably the clearest thing in the entire episode. I'm still baffled by what the heck is going on with this show, if the Others are stranded too, or if they are willing participants and conductors in these experiments. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what unfolds this season. Oh, and because I forgot to mention it before, I'm really excited this show is back. Leave it to Lost to air season premiere that throws you for a mind-boggling loop.

According to Ausiello, it was 43 minutes of show:

http://community.tvguide.com/thread.jsp ... 9884011647
I just finished watching the most anticipated 43 minutes of the TV season (aka Wednesday's Lost premiere) and I'm virtually speechless. From the fraktastic opening sequence to the chilling final moments, the four-star episode (penned by Damon Lindelof and J.J. Abrams) had me teetering on the edge of my swivel chair the entire time. It easily ranks as one of the best Lost eps — possibly the best — since the pilot. An amazing feat since it only features four series regulars!

Oops, when I said "fuss," I should have been clear. :) I meant his "fuss." He made a big deal about it, but I don't think it was that great of an episode either, especially for a season premiere. And, heck, I don't even really know the show that well. GA and ER -- now THOSE were season premieres!

It was nice to see Elizabeth Mitchell again though. But next week, I'll probably return to CBS to watch Criminal Minds. Besides, I don't care how cute she is, who puts toothpicks in a grilled cheese sandwich? Doesn't the cheese hold it all together?

From Mediaweek:

The good news for ABC was a midweek victory, with a first-place finish in the overnights (and most likely total viewers and adults 18-49 when the fast national results are released). But the third season-premiere of the still dominant Lost came down considerably from it’s year-ago opener. Lost averaged a first-place 12.3/18 in the overnights, which comparatively was down by 18 percent from its year two debut (Overnights: 15.0/21 on Sept. 21, 2005).

WOW. People are getting bored with this show.

9:00 pm
"Lost" 11.3/17 (7.4)
"Criminal Minds" 9.4/14 (3.8)

9:30 pm
"Lost" 10.8/16 (7.6)
"Criminal Minds" 10.3/15 (4.4)

First time it's EVER dropped throughout the hour. Criminal Minds is going to start beating it soon!

I thought it was a great episode, and I didn't think there were MORE commercials, just perhaps more often. Actually, I was watching on DVR and just fast-forwarded through them, so no complaints from me - no biggie.

If at the end of the show, it has me wanting more and I can say, "man, this show is nuts!" they've done good. :)

After past Lost finale's or premieres, or must-see episodes, I'd be thinking about it for days. Talking about it with my daughter or scouring message boards. Not this time. Less than 48 hours later and I've almost forgotten it. Can you believe that?

I'm going on record and saying - I do not want to care about the others. They are not the good guys. I don't care what bogus excuse they're gonna come up with. I will not care about this group. I didn't want to know about Ana Lucia, et all either but I came to like them.

The Lost writers need to stop adding so many new characters and give us more on-air time with our favorites - Sayid, Charlie, Claire, Sun, Jin, Hurley (God love him, don't you miss him?), etc. At least we got to see the big 3, wait, I forgot to mention Locke. He should be 4th, behind Jack, Kate and Sawyer.

I recorded the E. Lily interview on Ellen. EL said she will choose between Jack and Sawyer this season. For some odd reason, I think this Juliette chick is destined for Jack (dam*) so that leaves the two criminal types to couple up. It just looks too obvious though - Kate and Sawyer are too alike. I'll wait and see who she chooses.

I did read fans' comments on two other boards. Some have wondered if Kate was raped, before she was put in the bear cage. She looked shell shocked when she finally looked at Sawyer. And those cuts on her hands, it looked like she tried to fight someone off. I hope these fans are wrong. They are interested in kids on this island. Maybe they wanted to get her pregnant (I hope not!).

Speaking of pregnant....(hubby and I finally caught up on some episodes we missed last season), has anyone considered the thought that Sun was impregnanted by whoever captured her? We've never discovered who captured her, right? I know that the general thinking is that the methods weren't exactly the same as when Kate was taken, etc., but it's doubtful that it was one of our fave characters, so that leaves the Others. Then, there was the fact that the fertility problem was Jin's, unless the island cured him of whatever his issue was......????

I agree with the WAY too many commercials in this premiere. We taped it and watched it Fri night and it seemed like every 5 min. I was fast forwarding through one more set of ads. Other than that, I liked the episode. It was nice to finally see a bit more of Jack's life, although we're still not 100% certain what drove he and his wife apart.

I'm also wondering how Kate's planning to fight off these Others in a dress....she's a tough cookie and I don't think she'll let a skirt stop her, but it should get interesting. You know she and Sawyer will be trying to come up with some escape plan.

Whe Sun was captured? Did I miss something? Are you talking about when she was taken from her garden? That was Charley who did that. I don't remeber her being taken any time else.

I don't remember Sun being captured by the others. It was Charlie who captured her. He pulled his hood down to reveal his identity (to the viewer). As for her pregnancy, I thought her backstory made you question if the English Language tutor might be the father. Something like that. It was implied he wanted an affair, but she was torn, between her duty as a wife and not to be unfaithful. But at the time Jin didn't seem to even understand her and had become a stranger. So when she popped up pregnant, I immed. thought of the tutor (he was bald, wasn't he?).

The others kidnapped Claire and had her in the medical hatch. It was Alex who helped her escape. I hope I have that correct. Just in case we're keeping tally on who was actually captured by them.

Somewhere there's probably a website that has facts so far as we know them. What has happened to whom, either backstory or actual island time. It is confusing! For example, for Locke you'd write - once paralyzed (we still don't know what caused his accident!), gave a kidney to his bio dad, etc.

OK, I somehow missed that it was Charley that took her - ty for clearing that up...I, too, was wondering about the English tutor, but I"m not sure. I don't have a sense of the timeline from when she was getting tutored to when she found out she was pregnant to figure out if it could be him or not. It could be Jin, depending on what was causing his issue. We know Locke has been cured by his paralysis, and Rose's cancer was cured. The healer she went to in Australia was saying healing has something to do with the geomagnetic stuff, so maybe that helped Jin too....who knows...I'm sure they'll delve into it again in future episodes.

It was Alex that helped Claire escape, and Alex has been involved with the Others, but I wonder why she didn't bother to try to see her mom (Danielle), if she even knows who the mom is....we don't know much about her story at this point either. We still don't know why she was so willing to help Claire....

Maybe we can help eachother out here! We could each posts facts as we know, although fictionally speaking, about Lost characters. I wouldn't mind if it was a minor details, they are what count with Lost.

Do you all think this is a good idea?

If so start off by just typing a character's name and list what you remember about him or her. After all this time, it is getting confusing. Thanks.

well

the opening basically proves that there are 2 groups of others and that the others we have seen are the good guys.

Ben gave Goodwin 72 hours to make a list, yet the tail section survivors were attacked on THE FIRST NIGHT.

Also, Ben's group leaves tracks, while the group seen in the junger, walking bearfoot does not leave a trail.

It seems as if Ben's group are the good guys, while the other group are the real bad people
