What to do during the slow times of tropical season???

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

What to do during the slow times of tropical season???

#1 Postby Guest » Tue Jun 17, 2003 8:02 am

I decided to post this thread - sometimes it gets so boring waiting for something to develop in the tropics. I know on Saturday - everyone thought we had a system to watch and etc - now notta. So what do you do to keep yourself occupied during these slow periods?

I every day will keep watching the tropics as nothing is going on as I am on the tropical team of forecasters but it may be boring to me looking at the sat pics and models and not seeing nothing in the pipe in the near future but time goes fast and we will see things heat up.

For one, I drive myself crazy looking at radars........same things over and over!! :D Then I drive you crazy, emailing you to find out what is wrong with the website, because I JUST KNOW I am missing something!! Then I check to make sure I have plenty of tracking maps and I go to the front porch and see who's there, then I come back to the tropics, because, once again, I KNOW I have missed something! Then you post this thread and it gives me something else to do while I wait

Hmmmm let's see here...

1) I pay closer attention to the EPAC, WPAC, and local weather
2) Look at the Atlantic, even when there's nothing to look at
3) Buy and eat yummy doughnuts
4) Do more tropical cyclone research with TWW(if he's in the mood)
4) Look back at our seasonal forecast and say 'bust' over and over again
5) Work on IWIC
6) Fall alseep on computer chair
7) If I'm really desperate, I watch the weather channel
8) Post and chat on Storm2k et al about nothing particularly important

When it's boring, I keep asking myself the same obsessive questions over and over - do I have this, do I have that, where's my flashlight, is Law & Order on 24/7, is that a blob, do I need to add gas to my car's tank, what are they talking about on the board, how many more books about the 1900 storm can I find on Ebay, does this make me look fat, how many cans of spam can one person buy, why do I have 18 AAA batteries, and is anyone really watching the Galveston Hurricane Preparedness meeting that they keep broadcasting over and over on our government access channel?

I basically do the same thing I usually do, which is come here to see what discussions are currently in progress as well as finding out what new items for discussion have been added since I was at my computer last, monitor radars and satellite images and other weather sites and sometimes other websites.

I also enjoy IMing with people, much easier for me to do than striking up a conversation with people in person.

There is still reason to watch the waves we have out there, especially the two closest ones.

You, my wife and my daughter Rainstorm!!!! That is a pat answer!!! I will never lose with it!!!!!

I check all of my sources over and over making sure I have missed nothing. Then I check them again just to be sure. Check the email again to make sure NHC hasn't issued anything else. If I have nothing new I need to post or give in the way of suggestions or ideas to the forecasters., then I try to get back to my lessons at the Wxchat.com weather school, which I am already behind on!

Look for a job!! Look for a job!! Look for a job!! Look for a job!!
