Wow...50 kt winds 200 miles from the center? That's incredible.

At one point they extended 250NM (460km) from the centre to the NW and 150NM (280km) at the shortest radius. Estimating this as a one minue average gives 57kts if comparing to the N Atlantic.

I can't wait to see this thing strengthen into a hurricane. The winds will be VAST... TS winds are 405 miles from the center currently. Can you imagine? [I think Tip was 695 miles, for the record...]

Has anyone considered the huge waves that are likely to be generated by this behemoth (especially to the right of track) because of the incredibly long fetch of the winds?

Very true if it becomes a strong hurricane. It would be much, much larger than normal for its category.

Thank goodness, this storm is not heading for the US! Can you imagine a storm of this size coming toward your area? People would be scared to death, and rightfully so! 8-)

I already had evacuation plans made when I believed Florence was coming my way. I could not agree with u more; there would have been a mass panic.

Now, that's HUGE! I have never seen any tropical system in the Atlantic that large. It's even bigger than Betsy, Carla, Floyd, and Katrina.

Yes, mass panic would be about the size of it. We do have to be thankful that we are not threatened by this monster.

Felix in 95 had a huge windfield and looked to threaten NC for awhile and people did start to panic but he turned back out and went fishing!

The reason I called it a monster was only because of its size. Should it greatly strengthen, the word monster would perhaps be more appropriate.

Since recorded history, which storm has the record for being the largest in the Atlantic Ocean?
