Wettest monsoon in recent memory!

Well folks, I NEVER thought I'd hear myself say this BUT.........this has been one of the wettest monsoon seasons I've seen in recent memory , we had another .74" today, with 1.83" yesterday, that now puts me at 16.94" here at the house, a WHOPPING 5.54" above NORMAL (to date) and the possibility of a weak El Nino on the horizon for this up coming winter season, could THIS be the year we BREAK the 10 year drought and get back to somewhat normal conditions?

Seems like you guys in Arizona get lots of rain. I remember Arizona being very dry and having a severe drought.

We were/still are in an "Exceptional Drought", actually, it's been downgraded to Extreme Drought conditions...trust me, we are FAR from coming out of this drought we're in. In order to emerge from the drought we would need an extremely wet Sept, Oct. and then a VERY wet winter before we could think about calling the drought over!

Yes....it's been VERY nice seeing things SO wet again, this is like the days of old, when mud was word of the day from July to Sept., let's keep our fingers crossed!

From my experiences with that 6-year drought that occurred up here, even with exceptionally wet conditions it would probably take at least 2 years to completely rid of the drought.

Add another .63" to the 16.94"...a WHOPPING 17.57" It's funny, with THAT much rain you would think it would be muddy as all get out, yeah, it's a *little* muddy but not so much that you can't drive off road! And the TEMPS...my God it's been downright COOL....a high of 66° at the house today with rain, sure feels like autumn!

That's right ...this has been a STRANGE August, the most rain I've seen in years and it's been the coolest August I've seen.

Storm water overwhelms town drainage system

PINETOP-LAKESIDE - After the recent monsoon rains overwhelmed the town's culvert and drainage systems, flooding homes and causing road closures, the town is evaluating the entire system.

Public Facilities Superintendent Tom Thomas said the town received about two-and-a-half inches of rain Aug. 11, saturating the ground. Then on Aug. 13, it rained three inches in one hour. Because the ground was so saturated from the previous rainfall, it wasn't able to absorb enough water.
"The runoff overwhelmed everything, plugged up culverts. In several areas, the drainage couldn't handle it," Thomas said.
He knows of at least two homes in the Woodland Park subdivision where the water reached inside.
"Mostly it was garages and a lot of close calls," Thomas said.
Three areas in particular had drainage problems: Pino Ridge, Woodland Park and Pinetop Hills.

GESUS!! I just added my totals for the past 2 months....can you BELIEVE we (I) have received OVER 21.01" of rain since June 28th this IS without a doubt the WETTEST monsoon in EONS (at least 10 years)

That's amazing, we've only had a little over 30" of rain this year and I live in south Louisiana! The normal by this time is 43". Hopefully your drought is ending, and we can work on ours next.

YES indeedy, tack on yet ANOTHER 1.90" today thanks to the remnants of Hurricane John for a STAGGERING 21.91" to date AND...looking at the radar it's NOT going to end anytime SOON Anyone have a rowboat I can rent Hope y'all get the rain soon....I'm not stingy this year, I'll SHARE!

Wow, that's awesome azsnowman. We had a wet monsoon here, too...the airport only got an inch in August, but I'd say my house got close to 3 inches (more than 3 times the average). That's nothing compared to 22 inches, though.

and 0.40 of rain in Lake Havasu hardly got anything this year.

Well folks, the '06 Monsoon season is whanning and get THIS.....

My weather station here at the house recorded for the season, a WHOPPING 24.40", the *offical* reporting station, Pinetop Fire Dept. Station 2 recorded 16.90"....the normal rainfall for the monsoon season is 13.00", as you can see, we are WET......"FINALLY!"

wow that's just crazy. Not even a half of a inch in Lake Havasu City, AZ. This year was terrible as far as strong storms go.
