Wow, and they still have a bit more of the storm to go. Hope it can be restored quickly.

Luckily Dominion works pretty quickly around the metro areas. Now if there were those kinds of outages out here, it could easily take 2-3 days to restore. It took a week for many people out here to get power back after Isabel went through with winds weaker than Ernesto has now, so it'll be interesting to see how they handle this.

(flashing back to Wilma)

Hope their power company is better than FPL..otherwise, they are in for a long haul without electricity...

long haul of at least a couple of weeks if like FPL. We lose power about 3 times a day without a storm!

There was a minor power failure on the VCU campus here, so I believe it.

EDIT: If the power goes out in my apartment, I'll still be hanging around Storm2k because I have a laptop currently on the charger in case of such a thing.

Luckily I don't have FPL from what I have heard, I have Progress Energy. Don't think they were much better as far getting power back on after all the loses we had in '04, but are much better about working with customers about a late bill. :D

Looks like the power loses are up to 209,151 in Virgina.

Sounds like my power company Withlacooche. Thunderstorms knock my power out for 2-3 hours every other day in the summertime. Andsometimes lights flicker for no reason all day long. If ernesto had 70mph winds through my area I would have had no power for at least 3-5 days

I always wondered if the FPL grid was designed differently than other grids. I grew up in a suburb of Chicago. Power Outages happened rarely, and then, for half a day or so. In Florida, the power goes out often, but for only a short time. Unless it is a hurricane. Then all bets are off.

Is that Dominion Power down there?

Sounds like the necessary upgrades after Isabel were never completed....

I'm wondering how many powerlines are down due to trees. Hurricanes are one of natures way of cleansing. After lilli here, there were areas out for a good while because people hadn't trimmed their trees and because of that some people were out for weeks.
