Florida vs Carolinas..battle royale

#1 Postby IsaacRules06 » Thu Aug 31, 2006 12:01 pm

In this corner we have FLORIDA...

people mad because E fizzled, wimped out, mad at the media for overhyping the storm, especially in So Fla.

Sadly, two people did die due to traffic accidents in wet weather.

In the other corner, the CAROLINAS..

mad cause NHC only issued "watches" today, despite them being in the projected cone the last three days....mad cause kids still in school...mad cause EMCs not moving fast enough, and most likely underprepared for whatever E dishes out tonight.

LESSON: take a chill pill.....learn the fine art of PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, prepare for the worst, hope for the best, and stop bellyaching.

This storm has generated more fear, hype, BS, missed forecasts by the pros, and general malcontentness than any storm I can remember.

And you, dear, are clearly a fountain of goodness and light.

And helpful, too!

Thanks!

glad you started this thread. THose dissing the NHC need to realize they have to go with the best info they have. IF they didn't, can you imagine the trouble they would be in IF they deicded, well, I think (nothing to back it up) it might get a little stronger than the data is giving us, therefore I will issue a warning, where it is not supported by the data. What would happen??? IF it didn't happen - they would be in a world of trouble for causing undue expense for those counties affected. And all those same people here would be crying out - "Boy - talk about overhype!"
There has to be a cut off - it is at this link what that criteria is -

I think that the watch should have never been dropped, Artist, and you know what? I'd rather them be accused of overhyping instead of underhyping, because at this moment, there are STILL kids in school DIRECTLY in this things path. I don't really give a drek about what storm2k posters would say about the NHC if they overhyped it, safety first, especially for children.

but unfortunately when you overhype, people won't listen the next time. Seen it happen along the gulf coast.

I am just glad they dont leave it up to a bunch of know nothings like ourselves to determine policy at the NHC. Though there forecast was wrong for most of Ernesto's life they went with the best information possible and thus the information they delivered to the public was what they deemed appropriate. I in NO WAY fault the NHC. For them in this situation they were damned if they did, and damned if they didn't.

I am not down with the so called NHC bashing...they will be hard enough on themselves for the various bogus forecasts on E.

as one poster said, you could put up hurricane warnings and there is always a segment of the population who dismisses it, ala katrina.

if your child is in harm's way, you go to school, check them out, and take care of your business.

i was very calm this past week.....and i can hype it with the best of 'em.
