What is going on here?!
Ernesto never looked this good before. Anyone know the cause of this huge blow-up?

This is probably the first time I have ever seen a TC look better organized over LAND. Lake Okeechobee has some really warm water.

Wow! I just got home from being rained out at work and have to say, this is one backwards acting storm. Surely it has to deal with diurnal heating, the front to the west, and the swampy terrain of S Fla but could it be that the worst the storm has to offer Florida may be as the storm exits the coast rather than the landfall point?? Have there been any tornado warnings?

My goodness. I've been away from my computer for hours, and just pulled up the latest AVN image, mostly out of habit, expecting there would hardly be anything worth seeing.
Gee was I surprised. This is fascinating, would really be interested in hearing from Mets or the NHC about what is happening -- is it the Lake O / Everglades effect?
Is the increase in convection corresponding to lower pressures & higher winds, or is it just more rain and better organization?

From the models/Sat thread posted this AM:
Wthrman13 wrote:Well, the cloud pattern looks better organized than it did yesterday over water. The additional frictional convergence that occurs over land is a likely culprit. Nevertheless, the increased friction, while it may increase convergence at low levels in the short term and even enhance convection (as it appears to be doing with Ernesto), also means a decrease in the surface winds.
