The following is information I have gathered regarding Charleston County closings for tommorow:
Charleston County School Closings
Schools will open at their normal times on Wednesday, and each will run on a three-and-a-half (3.5) hour schedule based on its opening bell times. For instance, a school that opens at 7:30 a.m. will close at 11 a.m., with bus transportation available at that time.
Charleston County School District offices will operate on a normal schedule on Wednesday, Aug. 30.

Murray Hill Academy will not open on Wednesday, Aug. 30.
The Kaleidoscope morning programs for Wednesday, Aug. 30 will still be held, but the after-school programs will be cancelled.
Voluntary Red Cross shelters will open at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30 in three schools. Shelters will be open at Stall High School and North Charleston High School. Birney Elementary School will open as a medical needs shelter.
Decisions regarding school openings for Thursday will be made at a later time and will depend on the condition and location of the storm. Parents are advised to stay tuned to local media for updates on school closing information for Thursday
Other Closings:
The Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center: All outpatient appointments at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center are cancelled for Thursday, Aug. 31. Patients and employees should call (843) 789-6400 or 1-888-878-6884 for further information. VA staff will call patients to reschedule appointments planned for Aug. 31.
Goose Creek Interim VA Clinic: The Goose Creek Interim VA Primary Care Clinic, located on the campus of Trident Medical Center in North Charleston, will be closed on Thursday, Aug. 31 due to Tropical Storm Ernesto. Patients and employees should call (843) 789-6400 or 1-888-878-6884 for further information. VA staff will call patients to reschedule appointments planned for Aug. 31.
Charleston County’s Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Services (Charleston Center) has cancelled all outpatient services, groups, and counseling sessions for Thursday, Aug. 31.
Charleston County Council Committee meetings previously scheduled for 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31 are cancelled and have been rescheduled for 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Well that's SC for ya lol, we always do things weird. But I agree its better to be safe than sorry.
there are counties in this state (I can think of several) that are very conservative and wait until the very last minute to do anything - just a different approach.

This state closes schools for everything. One time they "thought" there would be snow, they closed the schools. It was sunny out.

True, but this has forcasted to be stronger for the Carolinas the whole time. We may not have seen the worst of Ernesto for the CONUS.
Those of us by the shore and the 2nd landfall are not blowing this off. Plus, yesterday they couldn't say for sure that the wind and rain weren't going to be so bad that busses would have issues. The bridges in Charleston are high and dangerous in windy conditions. I wouldn't want to be driving a bus over them with a TS near. Granted, most of the wind will be here Thursday, but they wanted to make sure people had time to leave in case things got bad Wed. evening.
