Cause for a little concern this am

#1 Postby 28_Storms » Tue Aug 29, 2006 4:46 am

NHC is forecasting near 0 wind shear in 12 hours just when he hits the warmest waters. We could see a 20-30 MB pressure drop from the current pressure readings. Do we shutter up?

I think you should, projected path puts us on Dirty side. I will be closing my shutters (accordion) at 11am advisory I believe.

If I didn't have accordions, I doubt I would close em, but seeing as I just dropped $2500 on them, you better believe I'm gonna take advantage of it :)

This has been the decision my father-in-law has been wrestling with. Hubby just left to head up to probably help him put the shutters up...hubby put our plywood (we weren't forking over the cash on a condo we're moving out of  ) up yesterday because there's a lot of construction near us, and we're at the southern tip of the peninsula, so we'll get stronger effects on the current path. I guess if you have time, and especially if you have some construction (roof tiles loose, etc.) near you, it couldn't hurt to have them up....Anyone in the S. FL area know if the NHC has theirs up today? I know they didn't yesterday.

Both Max and Knabb said that theirs were up at their own homes, for what it's worth. I honestly don't know if they do at the NHC, trying to save gas. :)

no doubt, i bought a 8350 watt generator and a room ac unit so i was out at 5 this morning getting 50 gallonsof gas making sure i could power all that stuff. if i dont have to fire it up then i will use the gas in my car. first 5 stations i wnet to had no gas sixth was charm. kind of funny running up 185 dollar bill at the pump between my car and the generator fuel.

Well, that tells me something if they did it at their own houses (well, probably had someone do it since they're always at the NHC when there's a storm coming).

I don't know - my personal opinion is that this is too little, too late for Ernesto.

For my money, this had to commence yesterday evening. Instead, Ernesto jogged westward over the Cuban mainland. I think that for S. FL, that significant jog will be the difference between the TS we'll get later on tonight, and the hurricane we would have gotten.

according the 8 a.m. advisory we should not rule out a minimal hurricane as they are contemplating putting up hurricane warnings later this morning....please watch your local tv stations

Accordions are damn expensive, but that convienience to closing is very helpful, especially since I live on the 2nd floor of my building.

all new residential construction in hurricane areas should be required to have accordians. keep the wind out you have a better shot of keeping your roof on, once you lose the roof then you start losing walls.

New residential construction is required to have shutters, and if they include a 2nd floor, I'm pretty sure they always put accordians up. I live in Keys Gate and the townhouses that have been built in the last 5 yrs. all have accordians on the 2nd floor windows and panels on the ground floor ones.

Yes. all residential new construction must either have shutters or hurricane impact glass and windows...most choose the latter. Ever bang on one of those hurricane impact doors or windows? It is like hitting a brick wall.

To be honest, this storm does not concern me at all now. If didn't get it going last night then it just doesn't have enough time now. Nice day off of work though..until about 4pm. I enjoy these types of storms.
