this is highly unexpected

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Its not record quiet. Its gonna jump up in the next two weeks. The reason were not being paraded by storms is because of the TUTT, wind shear and dry air. These should weaken in the next 2 weeks or so and tropical development should begin to increase

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm sure a boat load of people are happy though. 2006 is not close to a record though since we are at a normal pace so far.

We had an active season in 1969, but it wasn't until this time of the month of August that we had the C storm (Camille) of the season. In 1992, the A storm (Andrew) wasn't until after mid August.

For the life of me, I will never understand how there not being a hurricane to track can upset people. I guess it has to directly impact some people for them to "get it". Be thankful there's no storms to track; not upset.

There's plenty of storms to keep you busy if you just look to the Pacific... that's the only ocean mother nature is allowed to form storms in this year since she over-played her cards in the Atlantic last year.

record quiet? I think not...now if there was only 4 storms that formed all season, then it would be tied for the record quiet (I think...) however, in about 4 weeks, people are going to be wishing it was quiet again...

Definitely not quiet. We're ahead of the average year.

comparing things to averages is less meaningful

averages can be computed but they are misleading

there are seasons witht 20 storms and seasons that there are 7.

and when u put them together u get an "average number of storms per year based on the history of all storms"

the term an average season is an abstraction from that information and i do not beleive should be used for seasonal progress and comparisons, although it is human nature to compare (everything) and if u can't ; u desing and find ways to

i would like to know if the breakdown per season based on our climatology records show that there is a higher incidents of seasons that are either very high or very low in comparison with those that represent what the average equates to. if anyone understands what i'm getting at

I'll make you a deal. I will agree with you if you will pay for my homeowners insurance and repair costs from any hurricanes that you find entertaining.

Will,
It is only beginning. I think September we will all be busy tracking storms and possibility securing properties. Right now it is fairly calm but that can change.

That was just a statement of what is going on right now will. I think that what we've been discussing in the other threads about the shear will come to fruition in the next few weeks.

I hope that whatever storms we do see, they do not impact the coasts or if they do decide to pay a visit, they are MUCH tamer than the ones we had the prior two years.
