that is a very difficult question to answer unless you have a direct line to heaven. it may stay like this, then again it may pick up. through all the years of hurricane season I have been through, most are like this one.

Will, the peak of the season has not started yet as it runs from August 15 thru September 30th,with the peak day at September 10th.Things will become more active in the next 2 weeks as the wet phase of MJO arrives in the Atlantic.

This is not forecast to be a normal hurricane season. It is expected that 2006 will go down as having above normal activity. So with only 3 storms heading into mid August, expect a rapid number of storms devloping for the next 2 months. According to the worlds best, we can expect up to 9 hurricanes, 4 of which will be category 3 or higher.

I would say it would depend on the time of year and the climatology issues. This is a science that no one can predict. They can look at conditions currently as well as projected climatology and make an educated guess. No one knows until it begins.... it is mother nature and no one can 100% guarantee what she does or when she does it.

If this one off of the Africa coast doesn't develop, I'm thinking that we won't see any development until September, because there is really nothing else out there now to develop.

This has already been an active season. We've had 3 named systems and 3 close calls, plus a major rain event over TX. If that's not enough for you, you should leave because you'll be perpetually frustrated here.

No problem. Do a search for posts by you (= put your name in the search function) and I think there were 2 or 3 replies where people had given their thoughts. I'm kind of torn personally and believe that both the Gulf and Atlantic are at risk this year. But we're going to have to wait and see.
