Sofla "Loud" Tstorms

#1 Postby jlauderdal » Tue Aug 08, 2006 11:43 am

Well we have dynamics(wave + ULL) in play this evening that have sparked the attention of our friends over at Miami NWS. Can't say I have ever seen this terminology in a disco but I think I will be going to sleep early this evening.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL
335 AM EDT TUE AUG 8 2006

COLDEST TEMPS ALOFT
ASSOCIATED WITH THE UPPER LOW WILL PASS ACROSS THE AREA AHEAD OF
THE WAVE AXIS...BUT STILL THE INTERACTION WITH THE UPPER COLD CORE
LOW AND THE TROPICAL WAVE COULD RESULT IN "LOUD" THUNDERSTORMS
OVERNIGHT.

You could get alot of lightning with the cold air aloft much like what we experienced with the MCS that dropped over the Panhandle Fri. nite from Georgia.

Couldn't all thunderstorms be considered "loud"? :?:

it was an interesting selection on words but some thunder is really loud while other times its just loud like a muffled roar. i wish my weather station had a decibel meter and then i could report back as to how loud the storm atually was. i know if i tell my wife we are going to have loud thunderstorms tonight then we won't get a storm at all so i am keeping quiet.

Seriously, though, a decibel meter would be a great addition to any weather station.

for sure, i have a floating temp sensor in the pool and a temp/humidty sensor in the humidor so why not a decibel meter. i am surprised the temp/humidity sensor works in the humidor considering it is wirelss but it does so i am happy. what good is tropical weather without a good cigar stored at 70% humidity.

For those of us who have dogs who get spooked at the slightest sound of thunder, this forecast is helpful. Now I can get the Rescue Remedy out ready for the first boom.

Too - true - we've had probably 1-2 inches of rain in the past 60 minutes (not much thunder, however)...

Thunder is a mystery - no matter how soundproof something is made to be, the sound of thunder still manages to be heard...

A vet told me about Rescue Remedy years ago. It's a liquid made from flowers. It helps calms skittish animals right down! We put several drops in some cheese whenever there's thunder or when the kids shoot off fireworks in the street. Otherwise, the darn dog plunks himself in the (this is too gross!) kitty litter and tries to dig himself a giant hole. The cats hate it, I hate it and I don't think it makes Riley really happy either!

Anyway, you can get Rescue Remedy at most big health food stores. Whole Foods carries it. People can take it too, although I suspect a person would need a much bigger dose.

Read about it here:
