The thing about this season so far is...........

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

So refreshing not to be listening to all the global warming nuts shooting their mouths off to a press that's hungry to hear it. I suppose if we had a busted season they'd say an ice age is at hand.

They'd probably say this is all a normal part of the process for global warming.

This year it is the heat wave that they are blaming on global warming.

Quiet season doesn't mean it hasn't been happening.

I don't know why the idea that human activity has caused climate change, and is causing climate change, is so difficult for so many people to swallow.

People don't want to assign themselves blame for anything, so they can continue to pollute the atmosphere, conscience-free.

Hi. I'm one of the nuts you are speaking of. I don't consider myself a nut tho. I'm just someone concerned about the planet and our civilization. Surely you don't believe increased CO2 emissions are some sort of wonderful thing? Latest studies show increased C02 absorbed by the Oceans will eventually dissolve the shells of sea creatures.
Feely and his research team found in laboratory tests that the water near the ocean surface with added CO2 can cause shells of marine animals, including corals, snails and plankton, to dissolve.

Carbon dioxide levels that may occur in the seas by the end of the century could reduce the amount of calcium in shells by 25 percent to 45 percent, the researchers said.

If you don't think global warming is linked to increase C02 surely you at least think sea life is important? Do you like having lobster and shrimp cocktails available on the menu?

Global warming? I'm sure it's just the evil media and mixed nuts, like those at NOAA:

Uhh.. it would be nice if some of you could be a bit more respectful to those who believe in global warming.

Please and thank you.

I'd hope the above posts are referring to the questionable (at best) conclusion by a select few that global warming is causing more major hurricanes in the Atlantic. That conclusion MAY be true, but I, and many others on this board, agree with others (notably Landsea) that concluding such, today, is impossible. Such statements appear to be more issue advocacy than science.

As for whether man is artificially raising Earth's temperature...it is getting a bit difficult to conclude that we are not. In other words, a "cause" is becoming clearer, but (as to hurricanes) what "effect?" Anyone answering that question definitively, either way, right now, should be doubted (and perhaps occassionally mocked!)

A view or opinion is most welcomed Here. As said above, the key is to respect others opinions or views as well

There is no busted season in my opinion - Sept and October are the busy months.

I don't know, with all of the heat records we have been shattering this summer, I think the global warming crowd is in full force....For example, here in Sacramento, we brok the ALL TIME record of concecutive 100 degree temps at 12 this year. I think these records are happening far too often for it to be coincidence. Last year, July had more 100 degrees temps that ever before since records were being record. While I believe in global warming(I think it's obvious), I'm undecided on how much human involvement there is at this time.

If El Nino conditions are coming like some here expect, October won't be that busy.

It could be possible that people don't like to take the blame for anything. It's much easier to say that it's just a normal cycle and that nothing man can do can harm the atmosphere. It's the whole "head in the sand" mentality. Again, I'm not decided one way or the other, but it's obvious that Global Warming is happening. I think more and more scientists are agreeing on that. I remember years ago, only a few select actuallyl believed in Global Warming. Wow, times have sure changed!

If you'll go to the analysis forum and read senorpepr's post on the issue you'll see that so far this year is exactly on the 11-year climo line, which is high relative to the longer term climatology.

So to argue that what we've seen of this season so far is any kind of evidence against either AGW or the possible coupling of AGW with higher intensity tropical seasons is absurd.

EDIT: removed ticked-off rant

Never said I didn't believe in global warming or the harm green house gases cause. What I said was irrationally linking it to hurricane activity in the face of overwhelming evidence that the two are not linked is crazy. Nuts to me means people that jump on a concept without any understanding of what they are talking about simply to hear themselves or be heard. I also did not say that this season would be a bust I said it's nice not hearing the liberal hollywood left using it to increase their own celebrity status. If anyone took personal offense I apologize I do NOT consider everyone that is worried about global warming to be a nut. I just don't like others that usurp a good cause for their own end. Last time I looked neither Barbra Streisand or Al Gore were hurricane experts. Since this is a tropical weather forum I'd rather keep the context of the discussion to the subject at hand, linking hurricane activity to global warming.

Apology accepted.

But I don't think Al Gore is a nut, BTW. He isn't really that ignorant.

Just my my opinion though.
